On my block things ARE just fine. We get along. My son likes punk rock the kid next door likes rap. They both skate board and shoot hoops weather permuting. Both like Bob Marley as I do and the neighbors.
My daughter is Asian and her best friend on the block was born in Russia.
It's organic and it works.

The Party originally formed in New York in 1845 went on to become a national party fielding a Millard Fillmore as its presidential candidate in 1856, he lost.
As for "deflecting" the topic, nothing could be further from the truth, especially considering that it is truth that you are running away from as fast as possible, since the only thing that I have done on this thread is point out that xenophobia has bee a regularly occurring irritant to the American body politic since the beginning of the 19th century. The accusations and hysteria stay the same, just the color or complexion of the un-American hordes threatening to destroy our homogeneous way of life.
Learn American history, it will help you from looking foolish.
I don't know where you live, but where I live in NOVA, there is no integration. Yes, all ethicities shop at the same Safeway, but they live in pockets of Latino, Korean/Asian and white, respectively.
If you mean "integration" in the sense that we can all shop at supermarket without killing one another, then yes, we've integrated. But seeing is how parts of VA are self-segregated with respect to where one lives and who one associates with, I would hardly call that integration.
I don't know where you live either, but I live in North Springfield and my street has people from El Salvador, Korea, Ghana, Ethiopia, Egypt, Vietnam, Ukraine, Bolivia, and China, as well as African-Americans and Anglo-Americans. I know this because I spent some time campaigning for my state senator a few years back, and I was also on the neighborhood watch committee for a while. My neighborhood is very safe, and I know that for a fact.

However, this is nothing new or unusual. Humans do not get along with each other. History is full of human against human hostility.

Failure. Immigration was a success when theis country was a true melting pot and people who immigrated wanted to become Americans. This seems to be no longer the case en large.
Multiculturalism is a nation killer. A clear agreement of borders, language & culture must be respected for a nation to survive.
There are plenty of countries in the world where more than one language is spoken. In fact most countries with advanced economies REQUIRE students to learn their native langauage and English. Why no complaints about these countries losing their cultural identity by teaching English? It's a given that a nation needs to have secure borders.
As for culture that is something that changes over time based on a myriad of social influences.
Can anybody REALLY define what is American Culture? And NO I DON'T MEAN WHITE AMERICAN CULTURE BECAUSE THAT IS JUST ONE ASPECT OF AMERICAN CULTURE. Carlos Santana, Ray Charles, Yoyo Ma and Gloria Estefan are just as much a part of American culture as John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, or Marilyn Monroe.
What has made this country so great is that it has constantly been influenced by an ever changing wave of immigrants and their respective cultures. Now the substantial majority of these immigrants don't have white skin and people are working themselves into a lather.
