CAIRO (AP) — On Egypt's first day in nearly 30 years without Hosni Mubarak as president, its new military rulers pledged Saturday to eventually hand power to an elected civilian government and outlined its first cautious steps in a promised transition to democracy. It reassured the world that it will abide by its peace deal with Israel.
The protesters who drove Mubarak out with an unprecedented 18-day popular uprising were still riding high on jubilation at their success. But they also began to press their vision for how to bring reform to a country where autocracy has pervaded the system from top to bottom for decades."

Thank you Saudi Arabia for preventing the creation of another Islamic Fundamentalist Regime.
The inept Obama administration had nearly opened the door for another Iran, in true Jimmy Carter form.
This administration is not only incompetent, they are dangerous. Thankfully the Saudis intervened, as if the situation had progressed with the "guidance" of the Obama administration, we would have another Iran.
1. Where the hell was Hillary Clinton? The secretary of state should have been on the ground negotiating with the Mubarak administration.
2. Where the hell was the joint meeting between the Obama administration with the Saudis, the Mubarak regime, and the Jordanians?
3. Why did the US threaten to pull economic support for Egypt (these idiots do not realize that aid goes to the Egyption military and salaries, creating a STABLE ally for the west), eliminating the only source of stability there?
4. Why did Obama and the CIA not prevent US radicals from fomenting the violence and protests on the street?
5. Where were the US guarantees for Mubarak's safety, giving him an easy exit and this making his decision much easier.
6. Where were the joint meetings between the US and Egyption military?
This was nearly one of the greatest foreign policy disasters of all time and Obama should thank God that the Saudis bailed him out. Obama looks like a ridiculous fool in the eyes of the world after this and has greatly diminished US credibility.
I watched Oprah being interviewed the other day and she was asked how she felt about Obama and she actually said that there is a learning curve and that Obama was learning on the job. I am not sure the Presidency is the place for learning on the job.
Thank you Saudi Arabia for preventing the creation of another Islamic Fundamentalist Regime. Thank you Saudi Arabia? The same Saudi Arabia that just threatened the United States if we attempted to force Mubarak out?

1. Where the hell was Hillary Clinton? The secretary of state should have been on the ground negotiating with the Mubarak administration. SoS Clinton was in constant contact w/ Sulemain concerning Mubarak's transition and position w/ on the ground activities. If you would have read/listened to the news you would know this.
2. Where the hell was the joint meeting between the Obama administration with the Saudis, the Mubarak regime, and the Jordanians? Have you never heard of a conference call? The Saudi's threatened the U.S. if we attempted to force Mubarak out. The Jordanian's are having their own problems.
3. Why did the US threaten to pull economic support for Egypt (these idiots do not realize that aid goes to the Egyption military and salaries, creating a STABLE ally for the west), eliminating the only source of stability there?
It's called carrot & stick. That move was to prode the military, not Mubarak.
4. Why did Obama and the CIA not prevent US radicals from fomenting the violence and protests on the street? Which US radicals? Which/What violence? Code Pink? 4-6 people handing out flowers and carrying bed sheets is your violence and fomenting protests? You're Beck soup is boiling again.
5. Where were the US guarantees for Mubarak's safety, giving him an easy exit and this making his decision much easier.
I thought you were just against US involvement, and fomenting violence and protests on the street in Egypt? There was going to be no absolute way Mubarak would EVER be allowed to come to the U.S. We saw how that PR debacle played into the hands already of Iran's extremists.
6. Where were the joint meetings between the US and Egyption military?
There are always high level Egyptian military in the U.S. We do many joint-training exercises w/ them at all times of the year.
This was nearly one of the greatest foreign policy disasters of all time and Obama should thank God that the Saudis bailed him out. Obama looks like a ridiculous fool in the eyes of the world after this and has greatly diminished US credibility.
Greatest foreign policy disasters? You mean bigger than the 2003 invasion of Iraq? I don't think so. Your Faux News investors CYA messages are just that. No matter how much the Saudi propaganda spews out, they threatened the U.S. A ridiculous fool? Yes indeed, the idiot that wasted ALL of our good will and credibility in the world is indeed a ridiculous fool. As well as those who continue to attempt to spin the actions then and now as some other person's fault.
I watched Oprah being interviewed the other day and she was asked how she felt about Obama and she actually said that there is a learning curve and that Obama was learning on the job. I am not sure the Presidency is the place for learning on the job.
At any rate...we have no choice until 2012.
I saw that as well and thought, she must be kidding. The Presidency is not a position where one learns, it is a position where one leads. No wonder her new enterprises are not faring so well. I think people are tired of Oprah and her poor judgement.
For all the turmoil, the calm that has come over this region, I pray, these people find democracy and a peace. To live your life as others wish you to, to live not with freedom, is a terrible way to live.
1. Clinton never set foot in Egypt. The physical presence of a high ranking official from the US on the ground is, and always has been, a show of US support and stability. A conference call? Are you kidding? I guess that IS the Obama administration for you after all.
2. Again- a conference call??!!? The reason that the Saudis did not want Mubarak "forced out" is that they, unlike Obama, understand foreign policy. In the absence of a guarantee by the Egyption military, Mubarak leaving would have opened the door for chaos and a window of opportunity for Islamic radicals. Mubarak was a stabilizing force until a transition could have been made. Fortunately, the Saudis realized that. Perhaps there is some form of school for idiots that Obama could attend to learn a few basic rules of diplomacy.
3. A carrot and a stick? You do realize, don't you, that US funding helps pay for the salaries and support of the Egyption military- the only stabilizing force left in Egypt. To withdraw support would have been DISASTEROUS, as the Egyption military would have disintegrated. Thankfully, the Saudis realized this. One does not achieve a positive outcome by first creating chaos.
4. Bill Ayers and company- Obama's friends and masters of chaos.
5. Guaranteeing Mubarak's safety would have facilitated his decision to leave. Mubarak stayed longer, as he undoubtedly had fear for his personal safety, concern over "trials" by the new government, and concern for a smooth transition. Guaranteeing Mubarak's safety did not mean planting him in Cleveland. There are a number of secure places the US could have brokered, but did not. Regarding the Shah, you do realize that the Islamic radicals had already been positioned to take the reigns of the government before the Shah left for the US, don't you? Are you actually suggesting that Iran's contempt for the US was fanned by the Shah's presence in the US? That is certainly an amusing contention.
6. We always have had direct contact with the Egyption military. However, there were no members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff present in Egypt on the ground, nor high ranking members of the Egyption military in Washington. There was a visit by members of the Egyption military three weeks before the chaos began, however, when the crisis erupted, NO DIRECT CONTACT.
Again- Obama made a complete fool of himself and the US and nearly created a theater wide war in the Middle East by his ineptitude. Perhaps you should read the foreign policy analysis of his handling of the situation and appreciate his supreme incompetence.
