I'm with you on this one. The telescope, unlicensed gun, and camera with pictures of government sites would suggest something more covert, or at least that is how it will be perceived.

That was my thinking though I seriously doubt this guy was an actual spook. Their level of training and screening is such that this type of thing occurring would be extremely unlikely.

It is extremely weird. Any chance of this being a set up? Or am I being to tin foil-ish?

I guess the concept of diplomatic immuinty is lost on these people.
It wasn't too long ago when the US "persuaded" the Georgian government to not invoke diplomatic immunity on behalf of one of its diplomats who was arrested for killing a young girl in DC while DUI.

An American trying to get justice in another Country for whatever reason, Good Luck. Their justice stystems are not in the least like ours. A fair trial, i doubt an American would get one. This case i don't think he could get a fair trial at all. These people are not fair people to begin with.

Nobody has offered a plausible explanation of what an American "Diplomat" with a Special Forces background was doing with a gun, and the other equipment.

How many "Diplomats" have Special Forces traning, carry a gun, have radio contact to call for backup and carry photographic equipment?

At this point "Plausible Deniability" may be in place and this guy will receive limited assistance from the United States Government. Chances are he already knows this.

In order to have diplomatic immunity you have to be a diplomat. That's the question that the Pakistani authorities are trying to detemine.

Islamist idiots threaten violence for everything they don't like.. MAYBE, WE should threaten violence if they DON"T release our diplomat. Maybe burn a few effigies of mahammed, or osama, or their flag.. See how they like a couple hundred million of gun toting, knife wielding, torch carrying Americans looking for Islamic idiots.

Diplomatic immunity only extends so far.

I'm more worried about their ideas of "evidence."
