What is the GOP position on Medicare? They campaigned on protecting Medicare from cuts. After they got your vote, they quickly changed their plan. Perhaps they are laughing, behind their closed doors, at all the people who voted for them in order to preserve Medicare benefits.

Can anyone say "hoodwinked?"

During the debate over health care reform, Republicans often complained the Democratic plan would cut Medicare. They are now repeating those attacks in campaign ads against many Democratic candidates, targeting older voters who may be worried their Medicare benefits will be harmed.

And now;

Quote:
To move us to surpluses, Ryan's budget proposes reforms that are nothing short of violent. Medicare is privatized. Seniors get a voucher to buy private insurance, and the voucher's growth is far slower than the expected growth of health-care costs.
Quote:
The value of the voucher would grow significantly more slowly than CBO expects that Medicare spending per enrollee would grow under current law. Beneficiaries would therefore be likely to purchase less comprehensive health plans or plans more heavily managed than traditional Medicare, resulting in some combination of less use of health care services and less use of technologically advanced treatments than under current law. Beneficiaries would also bear the financial risk for the cost of buying insurance policies or the cost of obtaining health care services beyond what would be covered by their insurance.

In a just world, anybody that voted GOP would receive their medicare benefits cut.

And those that didn't would have theirs kept the same, funded by minor tax hikes on the rich.

What they are really after is the money in Soc Sec. They want to turn that over to the Wall Street "experts", to make sure it stays "protected". Medicare and Medicaid are drains. The GOP's only interest in those are trying to cut down on it's use.

They sold you a bridge!

Quote:
WASHINGTON -- Months after they hammered Democrats for cutting Medicare, House Republicans are debating whether to relaunch their quest to privatize the health program for seniors.

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wis., is testing support for his idea to replace Medicare with a fixed payment to buy a private medical plan from a menu of coverage options.

Party leaders will determine if the so-called voucher plan will be part of the budget Republicans put forward in the spring.

"No decisions have been made on the details of our House GOP budget." Michael Steel, a spokesman for Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said Thursday. "There are a lot of ideas out there, and we're going to listen to our members and the American people."

Medicare was one of the most highly charged issues during last year's congressional elections, which put the House back in GOP control. Republicans slammed Democrats for cutting Medicare by about 6 percent over 10 years to finance President Barack Obama's health overhaul.

But replacing Medicare's open-ended benefit with a fixed payment would cut projected spending much more deeply.

"Anyone who doesn't think privatization will mean severe cuts to Medicare benefits, I have a bridge I'd like to sell them," said Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. "Privatization will make the cuts previously proposed by either party look tame."

Republicans say it may be the only way to preserve taxpayer-funded health care for seniors in an aging society.

There is no money in SS. They are operating in deficit mode each month.
When there was a surplus Congress took it and replaced that with non-negotiable IOU's.

Congress owes SS. There is no surplus left in SS.

Default Don't like Corporate-Care??

Whatsa-matter, you don't like Corporate-Care? with denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions? With excessive administrative fees and profits?

Let's let the insurance companies decide who gets care and who doesn't. Sounds like a good plan...for diving off a cliff!!!

Given the general health profile of seniors, insurance companies will either refuse to insure them or the cost will be such that it will be unaffordable. For those reasons, this plan will be a non-starter. Furthermore, most Republicans are not stupid. With 37 million seniors getting Medicare, there is no way they will put those votes at risk. For me, this is nothing more than political posturing to keep the right wing and Tea part supporters happy.
