There are three kinds of people working for others in this world: Union members, fools or slaves. Our corporatist overlords want us all to be the latter as fast as possible. All bow to the Great Temple of Greed on Wall Street. Mammon Rules. One God, One Market, One Profit.

Wow. So you don't believe the profession can exist without a teachers union!

Not much faith in the profession there Bob.

I have a lot of faith in the Profession, just not very much in the politicians that manage and fund it and use it for political purposes.

That is music to my ears.

Quote:
Under the bill, public employees in the Wisconsin Retirement System would pay about 5.8% of their salaries toward pensions, up significantly from 0.2%, Werwie said. And state workers would pay for 12.6% of their monthly health care premiums, up from between 4% and 6% percent.
It's about time they start contributing towards their own health care and retirement, just like the rest of us in the real world do. They should be thankful they even have pensions. They are completely outdated in today's society. Buncha whiners wanting to continue soaking the taxpayer for all their perks. Makes me sick how entitled the teacher unions are.

Michelle Rhee, in an attempt to do away with tenure, offered the teachers almost double their pay if they would give up tenure. The teacher union in DC was so threatened by the thought of so many teachers opting to forgo tenure (and the union), they would not even bring it up for a vote.

Please, everyone, do yourself a favor and watch the documentary Waiting for Superman if you want to really see just how detrimental teacher unions are. It's downright disgusting.

Unions have their place and at one time were essential in protecting workers but they are rife with corruption like professional athletes, they have a false sense of entitlement and are deluded as to their importance. I just don't see how you can justify paying an auto worker $40 or $50 per hour and give him or her a lifetime pension after 20 years.

Perhaps if unions did something about rampant laziness and innefficiency people wouldn't be as upset about the high wages. Union laziness is a FACT. Drive down any highway where there is work being done and you will see 2 supervisors for every 1 worker. I deal with government employees and you see the laziness here too. It takes two weeks to get something done that should take a day, tops. Where is the pride? People shouldn't be killing themselves to get stuff done but you should have pride in your work and the speed and accuracy of your work.

By all means, get rid of the Unions, they are cutting into the rightful gains of those that matter.

I am a republican, yet am pro-union. I do think that MANY unions have become misguided (particularly the teacher's union) and have become political entities working against thier own professional mission, rather than a collective bargaining unit for wages, which is what they should be.

Unions have outgrown their usefulness.

We now have a myriad of laws in place that have made unions passe.

And this isn't even touching on how they've caused companies that are burdened with them uncompetitive.

The idiot Gov of Wisc is not doing this to affect the state deficits, he is doing it to break the union. The people aren't protesting cuts, they are protesting the fact that the Gov aims to eliminate all collective bargaining.
