Actually, the benefits for Wisconsin state employees is right in the middle of the private sector for their area. It is average. It is not like some of the outrageous situations we hear about in other places where there is no collective bargining.

If the benefits seem lavish, if the pensions seem outrageous, it is only because American's have turned their back on the Unions and have allowed their jobs to go overseas.

No reason to punish the students more than they have been by their teachers already. There are plenty out of work teachers who need work. Property taxes pay the teachers and there are plenty of other district employees that are not union who's income this selfish teacher's strike is negatively affecting.

Just remember....those Bush tax cuts lead to 52 Months of growth, stock market records, full-employment, and a 4 year record in Federal Government Revenues.
Well much of the economic growth last decade was based on rampant spending, cheap credit, and government housing policy. But the expiration of the Bush tax cuts would have certainly caused economic pain if they weren't extended.

Guess what??

The people of Wisconsin elected all these Republicans and the Governor to get their State's budget in order and they are following the will of their constituents.

If some union people and teachers don't like it, instead of trowing temper tantrums and running away from their jobs, do the grassroots stuff to elect someone else.

That's the Democratic way of doing things right....and the way the Tea Party sent so many Democrats their pink slips.

Teachers are rare. Good Teachers are even more so. Teachers need to be treasured if this country is to have any future.

Teachers are not rare, there are plenty out of work. My district fired 50% last year when they had to close 50% of the district. I believe same is happening in Detroit. I have friends in FL who are good teachers and are under employed as subs. as budget cuts have forced lay-offs.

I agree that good teachers are to be appreciated. Hopefully good teachers have not committed fraud by calling in sick so they could protest. Hopefully good teachers are not part of this fiasco. However, all striking should be canned and if the good ones want their jobs then the districts can decide whether to re-hire them.

Average Wisconsinites pay less than half a percent for a pension? Or only 6% (don't remember the exact number) for health care? If so, then I better move to Wisconsin!

If anything the unions have turned their backs on Americans and contributed to the crushing of our economy and fiscal budgets.

So maybe the Teachers Union ought to decide to protect some of their jobs, but instead, they are willing to see many get laid-off just so they don't have to pay a bit more into their retirement and HC benefits (way lower than what the typical private sector employee pays)...and forget about demanding Viagra as part of their benefits package too.
