Yes, it certainly is for the opposing party....if the people are paying attention.

The Texas democrats lost their 130 year control of our state legislature 8 years ago. When the republicans took control, redistricting was the order of the day. The repubs wanted to re-gerrymander the representation map to suit them, just as the democrats had done 10 years earlier when the repubs started making headway in our state.

The democrats fled the Texas legislative session to Oklahoma and New Mexico to hide & prevent a quorum.

When the dust finally settled from this epic political battle (it was eventually settled by a federal court), the republicans got some of what they wanted, and the dems retained a few seats they might have lost.

But guess what? No democrat has been elected to a statewide office since then...not even close...and the republicans now have a supermajority in the legislature. Not to mention that the previously unpopular governor Perry (he had been barely re-elected in 2006 with 37% of the vote) was re-elected in 2010 with 54% of the vote.

And now guess what? Texas gains 4 more congressional seats as a result of the 2010 Census.

It's going to be a circus in this spring's legislative session.

Thank gawd we only allow those clowns to meet here in Austin for 140 days every odd year.

It's so easy to continue being a lazy loafer rather then trying to better your life though, huh? I could actually sympathize with you, slightly, if I thought there was even the tinest chance you net pay any taxes but since it is obvious you work a dead end job without health insurance I just don't see how a non-tax paying layabout like yourself should even get a say.
You obviously have me confused with someone else, and for an under achiever I put 2 daughters through college as a single dad . My oldest is a teacher, my youngest has a PhD in physiology an gainfully employed. not bad for a lazy carpenter huh. lay off the personal attacks

There should be no coverage for erectile dysfuntion drugs because you will not die from lack of sex.

The Governor has a reason and it looks like he has some good ammunition to back up his claims of union tactics and not being able to negotiate.

The governor's reason is political. You know that, I know that, most sane people know that. You could come up with hundreds of expenses and use the excuse "that would employ X number of teachers" if you wanted to cut them. How about cutting some admin. jobs? Or cutting out refreshments for the school board meetings? Or whatever?

So when elected members refuse to participate in the legislative processes to which their duly obligated, this is actually admirable to some people? It's B.S. like this that serves only to reinforce my opposition to unions.

How is that worse then the filibuster which Republicans have literally spent the last four years doing? Refusing to fill a quorum is just another parliamentary trick to stop legislation you oppose so stop trying to pretend one is worse then the other.

Says you. Notice how real doctors and insurance companies disagree with your layman's diagnose? Could it be because they actually know what the hell they're talking about where as you are just, forgive me, a completely medically ignorant no one trying to pretend you know more then real actual doctors? could it be because real actual doctors know prevention is cheaper then expensive cures? Food for thought (not that you'll give it any).
