Media Myth: Liberals Never Use Violent Rhetoric or Imagery

As Wisconsin's Republican Governor Scott Walker tries to balance his state's budget with a bold move limiting the collective bargaining rights of public employees, the Left have come out in force dispelling the myth that only the Right uses harsh tones to make its point (video follows with commentary):

But here's the truth of the matter:

In addition to eliminating collective bargaining rights, the legislation also would make public workers pay half the costs of their pensions and at least 12.6 percent of their health care coverage — increases Walker calls "modest" compared with those in the private sector.

Republican leaders said they expected Wisconsin residents would be pleased with the changes and that the bill was about saving money. The union concessions would save the state $30 million by July 1 and $300 million over the next two years to address a $3.6 billion budget shortfall. [...]

Under Walker's plan, state employees' share of pension and health care costs would go up by an average of 8 percent.

Unions still could represent workers, but could not seek pay increases above those pegged to the Consumer Price Index unless approved by a public referendum. Unions also could not force employees to pay dues and would have to hold annual votes to stay organized.

I have always noticed violent imagery and in some cases action on both sides. What we should be doing is condemning it across the board instead fanning the finger pointing. Yes I know, you all will reply how "those liberals..." that is my point, don't. In the same sentence condemn right and left violent rhetoric.

When I was at a protest years ago ( http://www.ocweekly.com/2001-09-13/features/springboard-for-hitler/ ) we were protesting a Nazi rally and concert. Several people from local college progressive and liberal groups were there, they we talking about violent retaliation. I was able to at the same time condemn the Nazis and work with the liberals to point them in a different direction.

I had one of the leaders tell me that they would organize theft rings at Wall Mart to get back at the "evil" corporate giant. I was able to help her to see she what only hurting the poor the most. She said (a college student mind you) that she had never heard, or thought of it that way.

When it is personal such as the person who is getting a pay cut it is difficult to dialogue but with the supporters you can get through if they can know your goals are the same and you explain a better solution without using the standard "anti-government" language. It is not what you say but what they "hear" that counts, so learn how to promote freedom properly.

As long as both sides use pointed rhetoric such as "Liberal MSM" or "Right Wing Extremists", than yes, I agree.

Just from my Facebook page I have been able to help shift the thinking of several "liberals". Most I have never met and befriended me due to posts on other pages.

The sooner we move away from team thinking, the sooner we come together.

"Most people treat politics like pep rallies and defend their team like it was high school football, when in reality the politicians are the equivalent of pro wrestling." Me

Yes. We should have seen these angry crowds using Hitler analogies and bulleye signs on the national broadcast shows....but of course we didn't.

They are truly corrupt.

You can BET your last dollar if this had been a TP rally, that would have been the lead story for days.

The media is authoritarian, the left/right axis is dying fast. Look how fast the MSM promoted the Patriot act in 2002.

Do you want to just have your words used and do you just want to be "right"? I orefer to try and change the direction, not just point fingers.

The bias of the MSM is illustrated in how they "frame" this protest compared to what they tried to do with the TP protest.

Never mind they completely IGNORE and SUPPRESS the Hitler signs. rifle target on Gov Walker's head.

http://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/bre...card-all-spike

Of course, they (obama, unions, media) are all on the same side.
