First, Ya need a TEACHER.

A man(guess ya forgot women need to work, too...typical repug) needs food while he learns to fish...and a house and gas and heat and insurance and clothes.

And when the fish buyers all buy their fish from China because they can take more advantage of Chinese fisherman than the American fisherman, what should he learn next????
I buy my own house food, clothing, fuel, insurance and clothes when I fish (work).

Why aren't others doing the same?

Hmmm, food for thought.

When we promote personal responsibility, is that not promoting social responsibility as well?
No.

My social responsibility begins and ends with me.

I am socially responsible to abide by laws.

I am socially responsible for my children's education and their behavior, up to a certain age.

I am NOT socially responsible for educating my neighbors children.

I am NOT socially responsible for paying my neighbors health care bills.

Social responsibility is "social justice" which is BS.

I will not feel guilty for working hard and taking care of MY family and preparing for MY future.

idiot for sure...

probably Lakoff is worse than a Stalinist, he is probably a real live died in the wool utopian Marxist. I can deal with the dude who wants me dead.

the guy who just believes in insanity? you can’t deal with that guy.

I won’t dignify the likes of lakoff with an answer to your question. If you don’t know what America is and what it has historically been that’s your issue not mine.
I know what I think America is and what it stands for, but I certainly do NOT know what YOU think America is and what it stands for......and clearly you refuse to disclose that information.

Just as a little feedback, it just may be paranoid to have such enormous fear of "communists" and "Stalinists".......they are not out there in huge numbers, even though the John Birch Society may say that they are. This is 2011, not the 1950s.

And so you won't tell us whether or not your are a "personal responsibility" type of guy, huh?

I don't mind if the government chooses to help others .. What I don't like though, is having to pay for someone elses stupidity .. I also don't like that people are never given the motivation to improve themselves.

As long as the government is willing to allow people to sit around on their fat asses, collect our money, and do nothing .. I will continue to have a problem with the welfare system.

My help should and DOES go directly and GENEROUSLY to those who, through no fault of their own, have lost jobs, have become too ill to work, etc. Beyond that, I do not need our federal government to rob me to pay for those who will continue to demand money for doing nothing productive.
You have just stated the reason why compulsory charity of socialism is the problem, not the solution.

Voluntary charity IS a blessing.
Compulsory charity is a curse.

Someone has already made that "dare." The reaction would be that the IRS would try to contact me via mail, then they may send someone to visit me, then I might be arrested, then I might go to trial, then I might have to serve a few years. All of that would be contingent upon my REFUSING to pay taxes outright or whether or not it was just that I filed my returns, they were correct, but I just didn't have enough money to pay. It is not illegal to not pay if you don't have the money, but it is definitely illegal to not file. It is absolutely illegal to defraud or attempt to defraud the govt. by either refusing to pay taxes or by submitting an intentionally incorrect tax return. A number of celebrities recently have not paid taxes and have gotten arrested and the subsequently sent to prison. I have not heard one word about any of them being treated VIOLENTLY. For the privilige of living in this country, you are obligated to pay taxes. That's the way it works.

No one would come to MY door with guns ablazing. Of that I"m sure.
