Edit: How about some different context?

Government: "You have to buy apple pie."
You: "I don't want apple pie."
Govenrment: "It's the law you have to buy apple pie."
You: <purchases apple pie>
Some Jackass: "what are you taking that for, thought you said you don't want apple pie... Sheesh what a hypocrite."
You know what used to happen before SS/Medicare, right?

We had huge numbers of very poor, very old people living in the streets, halfway houses, dieing of hunger. They had no pie, even. So we all either have to then pay for their food and shelter, or let them die in the streets. Is that what teabaggers prefer?

Firstly you discredit yourself using derogatory terms. Having said that this discussion is not about whether it's a good or bad but instead not having a choice to opt out and then being called a hypocrite for taking advantage of something you paid for.... . If someone had the choice to opt out and then fell on hard times I guess that is there problem isn't it?

I think you've hit on a really big difference between Liberals and Conservatives.

Conservatives see a large part of our population dying of hunger in the streets as "their problem." Yet they claim to be driven by something called "moral values."

A liberal sees a large part of our population dying in the streets and realizes that this is a failure of our community, our society. That could be my mother, my father, son or daughter. That was our great, great grandparents. And as the "richest nation on earth," it's a moral tragedy, a societal failure that at one time in our history we had such a nation that we could let people live their final years in poverty with no safety net.

Moral values, my arse. Fu@k anyone who sees widespread suffering of others as "their problem."

Social Security has saved millions of people from living their final years in abject poverty. And the best way to keep Social Security alive and flourishing is to have everyone pay in. This is a modern society, not the middle ages.

????? Widespread suffering???? LMAO My mistake I thought you were talking about the US not another country.
The government has moral values??? You haven't been paying attention.

So your idea of Modern Society is to allow theft of property? The Theft and Coercion Age has really worked wonders for the advancement of mankind hasn't it?
