If there was profit to be made from such a rail, a private industry would have already stepped up to the plate to build one.

Ask Rush Limbaugh about the pill mills in Florida. He can tell you all about them, and what it cost him.

This is an excellent point that is lost on so many supposedly "intelligent" people.

Why are there no private companies looking to buy amtrack?

Because it's a bad investment.

i don't consort with that sort with that moron. are you that ignorant to think that because i'm a fiscal conservative, that i believe social conservatism should be ramned down the throat of everyone else. how's this for a new approach, how about i mind my business and you mind yours.

rick scott's decision to kill off high speed rail was brave, but for him to deregulate pill mills shows principle and extraordinary bravery! do you think he doesn't know that people will die as a result of his decision? he knows very well, he also knows that for every addict there are 100 who are in pain and are tired of dealing with the medical bureaucracy.

besides this thread isn't about pill mills, it's about high speed rail

Why must it make a profit?

We subsidize the hell out of highways AND oil.

Highways and roads I never use, I still have to pay to maintain a country road where five people live. Sounds like socialism to me. But I guess rural areas have a history of being hogs for government subsidies anyway. Wouldn't be so frustrating and hypocritical but for the fact country folk are some of the most conservative and against "communism!"

Maybe the solution is to END subsidies for gas and oil, and make people pay taxes on miles driven on the road.

We in Fla have the best Gov. When he steals, it's billions, not just millions.

You guys don't under the politics for the rail project. It's CSX that's the holdup. They want a king's ransom. CSX is one of the most evil companies. They need to be brought off for the high speed rail project to work which isn't going to happen.
