The problem is ... can you trust thieving politicians (most of them - on both sides) not to take your money (they already have) and then reduce your benefits on the grounds that there is not enough money (because they spent it on something else).

That would be great.
SS was a good idea at the time but our "lawmakers", both Dems and Repubs, have used that money to fund other areas of government without being able to follow through with their plans to pay it back. They, our "lawmakers", use the Social Security funds (that working citizen’s pay) to pay out to plenty of people who have never paid into it. I guess our lawmakers knew a long time ago that working citizens would have never agreed to support non working citizens and illegal aliens’ lifestyles. In my opinion, if you don't pay into SS you should NEVER be able to draw from it.

I would like to find a way for my daughters to opt out of this ponzi scheme.

What are the options?

Unfortunately, Social Security is a PONZI scheme. The money to pay out, is currently being fed by the people working. To allow them to pull out, means taking the money out of federal income taxes, which would mean an increase in the base federal income tax to make up for the deficit caused by letting people out of social security.

If you never paid into social security, then you cannot retire and withdraw from social security.

Estimate Your Retirement Benefits

Social Security Credits
Quote:
Credits are the "building blocks" we use to find out whether you have the minimum amount of covered work to qualify for each type of Social Security benefits. If you stop working before you have enough credits to qualify for benefits, your credits will stay on your record. If you return to work later on, you can add more credits so that you can qualify. No benefits can be paid if you do not have enough credits.

No I don't support this, because a bunch of people are going to opt out, then there will eventually be a financial crisis, like there always is every few decades. As a result the people opted out and lost a lot of their retirement money due to the financial crisis are going to demand to be let back in, and there will likely be enough of them to force the government to let them back in. The end result being that social security will be even less solvent.

It's not even close to being a Ponzi Scheme....and these supposed similarities are laughable.

SS is a bit of a Ponzi scheme, in that the gov't set it up originally 2 years later to collect than life expectancy.

We're also eating our own bitter fruit; it would have far more of a reserve were it not for 50 million abortions, which warped the ratio of Baby Boomer retirees to workers.

No, social security is a safety net. Its not a retirement plan. You should plan for your own retirement outside of social security, and use that for emergency needs when they come up after retirement.

Allowing people to opt out is like giving them their seed corn to eat to make it through the winter. The problem with most people in this country is that they can't plan beyond 1 year, let alone 30 or 40.
