Yeah that musty old Constitution...let's toss it because the very foundation of our Republic isn't based on it or anything stupid like that.
I think we should make a NEW constitution but only let people like Michael Moore and Rachel Maddow write it so that people who don't think like us won't be allowed to taint it.
That way we can have a perfect world.
First we'll tax the rich 90% (they are all evil anyway and stole their money) and give it to "The Poor" who are all innocent and just haven't had "opportunity".
Then everything will just get better and better for our wonderful, new perfect country.

What does this have to do with the constitution? If congress wanted to pass a law allowing for maternity leave they could. They could use the same commerce clause arguments they did for laws regarding wages and safety standards.

Because people are misinformed. Education is NOT a right. I'm all are completely privatized education. Government indoctrination, err sorry, I meant taxpayer subsidized daycare, ah crap I meant public schools, is poorly executed and even though we throw more money at it, nothing improves.

I find it ironic that for such a young country with little culture we have such a rediculously outdated, old, relic constitution as compared to many of our conegers in europe and developed asia. Some of these countries and cultures are thousands of years older but many have newer constitutions.
but then again, we still vote on the first tuesday of november b/c we didn't want to travel on the sabath and travel from rural locations took more than a day, hence the tueday when most nations are voting on the weekends where turnout is much higher.
or a school year that's still based on an harvest schedule with rediculously long summer breaks and 15-30 days lessper year in school than our closest european and asian allies. Even at 15 days times 12 years that's 180 less days, anentire year less of education for american't kids.

Badger, I agree with you 100%. It's sad to see how poorly the US is treating its own citizens when clearly such a rich and developed country like the US could and should be a leading example to the world.
Pretty soon you guys will argue that elderly persons should not receive any government care or money and if their private pensions are inadequate or stolen by a bank failure just be allowed, or encouraged, to die so you will not have to pay taxes. After all it is your money and you should not have to share with anyone, let alone "THEM".
Next time you are mugged or defrauded I think you should pay for the investigation because I do not want my money wasted on you. I would rather my money support the elderly and the children.
The moral way to organize for maternity leave is trough savings and/or voluntary agreement with your employer. The immoral way to arrange for maternity leave is through threatening your employer with violence if he doesn't provide you with what you desire.
