It is across the board entitlements. People taking advantage of a public treasury that they "think" oh, its just a little percentage of the total budget, but it all adds up!

High schools with mulitple principles, mulitple vice principles, Ed techs, all of these top heavy administrator positions tht never existed when I waas younger. Parent's who want special treatment for their children.. Severly special Ed children who get personal teachers assigned to them..

No one has to sit here and tear down these positions. We coud debate ALL day that they are important jobs that help society..

But The question is DO WE HAVE THE MONEY.. We have reached the envalope of our quasi socialistic/capitalist form of society.. we cannot keep asking for more.. Its not fair to the rest of people that government emlpoyees recieve such lucrative career packages.. health benifits for life, retirement benifits provided years prior then when the rest of society gets to retire..

ALL for what?

Greed and selfishnes with malice! When teachers go on strike hurting the very children they are supposed to be responsable for I think they have crossed the line and the people of wis deserve better!

Many teachers, even unionized ones, do not get free healthcare or pensions. In Connecticut teachers pay 7.45% toward their pension. Healthcare costs differ depending on the district but the district I am familar with the teachers pay 15% and they have increased contributions by 1% a year. It is a PPO plan with co-pays and deductibles and is self-funded by the district. The district has not had to pay into the fund because it is 125% funded due to excellent fiscal management of the investments.

An honest and respectful relationship can work. Unfortunately, it appears that the WI governor is more interested in gaining points by breaking unions for higher ambitions than truly negotiating with the teachers to solve the fiscal problems.

My bet is that we spend many multiples of what any other country spends on special ed.

Now, redistributing the current school dollar more effectively would be part of the solution. But I seriously doubt anyone really thinks that reducing school expenditure will have a positive effect on student performance.

Back up your assertion with some solid evidence, then.

Edited to add: NEA: It is not about the children, it is about POWER

Breitbart.tv » FLASHBACK: Teachers Union Bigshot: Not About Kids, It

Watch that video Recovering Democrat. It's not about anything more than POWER. I'm sure some leftie will come in here and SPIN the video to say something other than it does, but you know what?

Your SPIN and divisiveness/cowardice DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE.

Your kind is being taken down, and more than a few pegs.

For too long the corrupt unions and their thugs have had a free pass. Well, thanks to people FINALLY waking up to this mess, it will SOON be over.

Say bye bye to your free pass Libs who are really nothing more than COMMUNISTS in disguise. You are going to have to suffer along with the rest of us while we straighten the mess that you have created out.

Give teachers a break!
Well that was a nice post and before I even read them I know exactly what the reply would be from the right-wingers here.
Thanks for posting it anyway.

Well they can't pass their own certification tests for
one

If they can't pass that basic test - they need to go back to
school.

This was 2002
TEACHERS FLUNKING OUT ON STATE TEST CAN'T PASS BASIC EXAM FOR CERTIFICATION (http://www.nydailynews.com/archives/news/2002/05/07/2002-05-07_teachers_flunking_out_on_sta.html - broken link)

This is now:
Catalyst Notebook :: Fewer teacher candidates pass basic skills test

"Froehlich says the committee knew that the Illinois State Board of Education had approved a cut score increase, but were not aware of how dramatic it was. To pass, students must now get 75 percent correct in math, up from 35 percent, and 85 percent in reading and language arts, up from 50 percent. The fourth area, writing, is rated on a 12-point scale and now candidates must get an eight, up from a five.

What she didn’t know is that, in 2001, the rigor of the basic skills test was increased from an 8th-grade level to an 11th-grade level"

Up until 2001, a teacher was able to pass certification with 35 percent in math and 50 percent in reading and 50
percent in language arts at THE ELEVENTH GRADE LEVEL.
How motivating.

I'm just wondering how many tenured teachers are still flunking. If they don't understand the material,
how can they possibly teach it. Might as well give the
kids a library card, a computer, and let them teach themselves online

Now, you know why they cling to the union - it protects
tenured teachers that shouldn't be there.

Keeping Bad Teachers in Front of Students | Teachers Union Facts

Even Al Shanker, the legendary former president of the American Federation of Teachers, admitted, “a lot of people who have been hired as teachers are basically not competent.”

REALLY

Tenure:

According to the pro-education reform documentary Waiting for ‘Superman,’ one out of every 57 doctors loses his or her license to practice medicine.

One out of every 97 lawyers loses their license to practice law.

In many major cities, only one out of 1000 teachers is fired for performance-related reasons. Why? Tenure.

And why is that. Ever since they started Child Study
Teams, schools clamor for tax dollars by labeling practically every kid with some kind of learning disability.
