I might if things got bad enough for me healthwise.
I'll have to research what the residency requirements are and I'll post them here.
Two Drs. have to sign off on it and say that one has six months or less to live before they'll do it.
So it's not like one can just be depressed, go there, and get put to sleep. I guess it would be like a hospice situation without making someone go through all that pain at the end.
I am not a religious person so I have no qualms with the concept myself.
It's not about this. It's about not leaving a mess behind for someone else to clean up, for one thing. Also, those left behind are traumatized when someone commits suicide.
Maybe I should have worded things as "deatih with dignity," which is more apt I guess.
You're right. It's much easier and cleaner to just let someone do it in a nice, heartless, sterile way.
I am contemplating a move this year but not for the reason noted above. It is just coincidental that these two states have always been potential destinations due to their politics, natural beauty AND assisted suicide laws. BTW, assisted suicide is now legal in OR, WA and MT. It is being considered in the New England states as well.
We put our pets to sleep when it is time. We make humans suffer far too often. This is enough to get me to move to a state when and where I can choose how I go. How about you?
for me, and for me only, suicide is not an option i will even consider legal or not, thus it makes no difference to me what the state allows.
imo, suicide assisted or not, is the cowards way out of life.
If I was diagnosed with a debilitating illness (MS, ALS, certain cancers, and maybe even blindness) then I don't think I could go on living. I love life WAY too much for it to be compromised by degenerating illnesses.
The whole idea behind assisted suicide is painless death.
Gas yourself with carbon monoxide if you don't want to feel your suicide. Pills can also work, provided you take enough of the right ones. Why do you need someone else to do your dirty work for you?

Obviously you don't love life at all if you would rather not live.
