It is not about busting Unions.......you have to make the distinction between private and public employees. "How ironic that Wisconsin has become ground zero for the battle between taxpayers and public- employee labor unions."

So if public sector unions are the reason for economic problems in states that have them, then why do four of the major right to work states--TX, GA, VA and NC, have some of the biggest deficits in the country--a cumulative total of over 200 billion dollars? The truth is that that unions aren't responsible for this mess--although public employees are going to have to bear the brunt of efforts to fix state budgets through pays cuts and cuts in benefits. We barely escaped from a depression in this country, and we're still in a major recession. How about blaming the people who actually deserve the blame--bankers and wall street who took risks with our money (and who are still making millions of dollars and bonuses). I'm not a democrat--I'm a republican small business owner--and I'm tired of efforts by big business and the far right to try to put the blame for this mess on the backs of the middle class.

Nobody said the public unions are to blame........"you left out politicians by the way". Stop with the "on the backs of the middle class already" I too am a small business owner , I also am middle class and at the end of the day........ you tell me why people working for the government getting paid by the middle class should have a much better deal than those who are busting their asses to pay them!!! That is what this is really about!

A unionized public employee, a Tea Bagger, and a CEO are seated at a table. In the center of the table is a plate holding a dozen cookies. The CEO reaches across and takes eleven cookies. He looks at the Tea Bagger and says, "Watch out for that union guy, he's going to want part of your cookie".

You are probably a Democrat operative typing away here instead of being busy working your supposed small business.
If you were a small business owner you would be ragging on and on about the fees to start up, the stupid laws that make you file endless paperwork and of course the extra taxes you would pay for being in business for yourself.

I doubt what you say really, you sound NOTHING like a business person.

Government unions are a total monopoly that pay politicians to make them sweetheart deals in pay and benefits.
They are often way bigger than supposed big business.
In CA alone they put a couple of hundred million into election Brown, in exchange Brown has been hands off regarding unions regarding the balancing of the budget as the state sinks forever.

Big Government Unions are not the typical middle classes. they are the elite that get special deals the taxpayers who pay their salaries don't see in the real world.

I hate to say this to one who tries so hard to convince me that he/she is not a Democrat, Socialist, and so on but you just ended that post with the very words that those people are throwing around these days. Class warfare is for sure a tool used by both those groups and is even being pushed by the top community organizer in our country. If we ever get this class warfare established as solidly as they seem to want we can expect to see that very class destroyed completely and much sooner than I want. Pit the bottom against the top and continue pushing and you have just what the modern socialists are talking about and are using to get what they seem to want.

It is past time for us to look at how much money those Wisconsin teachers have been contributing to their pensions other than state taxes that everybody pays. They have not been asked to take a pay cut, only a cut in benefits that have to be paid for by the taxpayers. I keep thinking about that $50,000 + as their average salaries along with the $31,000 of benefits which are largely pension money. Benefits just aren't part of the salary and they don't pay taxes on those bennies either.

Collective bargaining in a monopoly situation in government.
A private sector union doing this would close the business down and cause their own demise.
