According to a new Wisconsin poll released today, Scott Walker would only receive 45% of the vote against his former democratic opponent if a new election was held today. The polling firm attributed the shift in support to households in Wisconsin with at least one union member (and I'm guessing the difference is R union homes).

Another national poll released today by CBS/New York Times shows that 57% oppose and only 37% support cutting the pay and benefits of public employees to reduce state budget deficits, and 60% oppose and only 30% favor taking away the collective bargaining rights of public workers.

Scott Walker may be trying to win a battle in Wisconsin, but the R's are losing a war because of it. The public doesn't support these efforts, both in and outside of Wisconsin. Many of you are certain the R's will take the blame if Walker doesn't compromise on the budget bill--according to these numbers, I don't think I'd be so sure.

That's why it's called leadership.

Well, the election is NOT held today.

He'll be re-elected in 2014.

Uh...no. The ONLY thing that changed is in union households. That is to be expected.

The difference between how folks would vote now and how they voted in November can almost all be attributed to shifts within union households. Voters who are not part of union households have barely shifted at all- they report having voted for Walker by 7 points last fall and they still say they would vote for Walker by a 4 point margin. But in households where there is a union member voters now say they'd go for Barrett by a 31 point margin, up quite a bit from the 14 point advantage they report having given him in November.
Oh, that CBS/NYT poll? Hugely skewed towards the democrats of course.

A ten point CHASM between the dems and reps - totally defective, especially since the national party ID generic ballot has republicans up.

Nope, leadership. Walker is doing the right thing, he isn't governing by polls. Christie was in the same place Walker is now when he took on the teachers union. His polling is much better today as he closed an $11 billion hole in the deficit. Walker will be proven right as well.
