Americans are raised, trained, and rewarded for being narcissistic: autism is the next acceptable trend. As long as you understand you: that's all that matters in the future.

There are always documentaries to fix that problem. And The History Channel too!

Hell in many cases Americans are just plain ignorant about other Americans.

Is it necessary to be educated about the rest of the world?
When you've read one Noam Chomsky book you've read them all. lol. Try that. And you will need to know nothing more.
At least that's what they try to get you to think: try documentaries and The History Channel. And even then I don't think it matters too much.

I'd say the difference is only the depth of roots each culture had- American history is still relatively shallow in comparison to China for example. That 'nation' is older than recorded history far as I can tell. We're still green horns, not necessarily flakey/ superficial. All in all, I'd say we had decent parents despite their numerous flaws. Is it fair to say European parents learned some things from their wild child America? Have I mentioned I'm a descendant of Anne Boleyn and natural born feminist who still loves her man?

I note France was quite a cheering section for us all along, the radicals for liberty smirked & winked regularly with philosophical assistance pushing the envelope. People whined about the statue they sent but as you might notice I hold it dear to my heart. They had high hopes for us and I think in some ways most of Europe still does hope we deliver all the answers that stumped them 500 years ago. I hope we all deliver together somehow even if we remain separate entities. Just got to knuckle down and apply our all to the problems at hand. We don't have to remain doomed to repeat mistakes forever if only we can try to remain as intellectually honest as possible. It's very hard not to allow our emotions to run away when so many preconceived notions are challenged too quickly. Somehow I sense China knows this intuitively in their application of governance, much as we all take issue with their methods.

Here's an example. Michael Savage: banned in Britain.
It's a shame intelligence cannot come to the fore in right wing thinking. There is no defense for screaming fire in a crowded movie theater as regularly as you do. No defense whatsoever. Y'all have the credibility of rodney king saying 'can't we all just get along' after his irresponsibility instigates riots.

America is in trouble most because right failed to articulate intelligently and allowed resentments and vainglory to corrupt their mission. We trusted you and we were betrayed. You continue to betray us with more lies heaped upon lies. Own it. Then we can get to work fixing it. You still look like/ act like a bombastic drunk to me. Grow up already.

I'd say the world is much busier attending to their own porch when the American sword is not menacing the globe with irrational speeches and appeals for holy wars. Call me kooky, I know you wanna.

The foundation didn't change, it's only been under served trying to cope with modernity & too many stragglers refusing to believe all citizens have intrinsic worth. Treat your freedom like it's a private club, it cheapens the value of liberty and justice for all to appalling levels very far from our founders aspirations. It is the greed of men wanting to covet liberty all for themselves to blame. Liberty cannot stand without the consent & support of the many. That would explain the attacks from within America coming from the right. They're telling you to give up your faith in one nation under god in exchange for a bag of magic beans. They're pitting Americans against Americans. Refuse to follow. Refuse to comply with insanity and fear mongering. Refuse. We only need to rise above the issues and see their root causes clearly.

There is real pride and false pride. Confederate was counterfeit. They were blind to the higher calling and failed to articulate a proper solution. They allowed their anger and arrogance to run away with them. Cooler heads needed to prevail then, and they need to prevail now if only you'll let them. If only you would refuse to be an enemy of American citizens. Brainwashed into hating liberals makes it much easier to kill them, does it not? Koch means to see liberals killed in America. Koch means to kill me caught in the cross fire of insane rhetoric. You cannot credibly sell the story of defending America if you are animated to kill me. I am America, and neither republican nor democrat. Once you've bullied your way you would have disgraced yourself by destroying everything worth defending in the process. You cannot claim love of country if you hate your family. It's a lie you tell yourself.

I think it's fair to say that the rewards system and the moral system in America are vastly different things putting people in conflicts needlessly. Currently the rewards system graces those who act as sharks, and punish those taking the high road. Sell your soul to be on the winning side is no bargain.

You know, artsy, there is a strange thing that goes on in a human being. We want to live forever but that's not the gig. We want to save every life and spare all people of suffering, but that is not the nature of life nor is it in our power to bestow as if we were truly God. At best we're God wannabe's trying hard not to allow our own misconceptions and issues get in the way. Some of us try harder than others, but yet others convince themselves of their own grandiosity until they're walking down main street as a naked emperor and the epiphany hits them.

Pain is a teacher. You don't have to look for pain by being belligerent/ arrogant. You can listen inside and intellectually examine why it is you feel it and allow your mind to untie the knot keeps you wretched over or hobbled in life. The matrix movie is a metaphor for a great deal many things. May the schwartz be with you.

How should a kid in school be educated about the rest of the world more than they already are? What should the curriculum look like and when would there be any time left for the basics?

What should be taught? The French run around with their hands in the air? The allied forces in EU still owe the US money? The US isn't a socialistic society, but the liberals in America want it to be while pretending they don't?

How "educated" is the rest of the world about America? Apart from watching documentaries on the EU History channel or MTV or learning why so many fled from their country TO America - and getting all pissy pants over it?

What do they REALLY KNOW? They don't live here. They don't know what it takes to not be a whiner, they just know that the whiners, who do live here, agree with them.

Maybe MORE people should send their kids to private schools, where, much to my chagrin, too much time is wasted on "learning" all about euro-crap.

You don't like America? Move. What's stopping anyone?

It really is that easy.

Americans know little about the rest of the world because they do not need to know. We are the most powerful nation.

The rest of the world needs to know about America because they need to. It benefits them. Plus, our influence is global.

When another nation starts to surpass the US in power and influence, trust me, Americans will become a lot more worldly.
