Shhhhhhh! Nobody wants to talk about this or do anything because it is unpopular.

Workers actually contributed to the SS program. Money was taken from their paychecks for as long as they worked.

UE is also anther program where companies contribute to the fund.

Where is welfare/food stamps which is totally government paid...those are the true "entitlement programs".

SS after a couple of years is truly in the same boat as welfare.
The thing about SS, many were to die before collecting; this deal with long life is nice for us, but never envisioned when the program was implemented.

It's tough to keep it solvent.

Yes, THE chart of the day.

Notice UE benefits - those 2+ years of UE checks sure do add up.

2 YEARS - whoever thought this was a good idea?

The fact that people paid into these funds dont mean the money is present and the expenses dont exist..

THEY SPENT all of the money, and left with nothing but IOUs for upwards of tens of trillions of dollars.. I've seen estimates upwards of $75Trillion.. Where do you suppose the money comes from to pay it back?

Just had a few comments in another thread about CPB and how cutting discretionary spending isn't going to make a dent, it's just 600 billion dent according to this chart.

We could stop cutting corporate and high-income tax rates to even out this budget disparity...

Course they are. Pay 40% of your population from those who work and expect nothing in return and what are you going to get? This country is Moronica and deserves to be swallowed up by a smarter group. Ancient Greece tried to pay people to do nothing.....and then all this BS about learning from history-stupid losers.

You're asking for higher taxes on yourself. You just don't see it as a tax. Taxes to a business are no different than the light bill, both are included in the cost of the products you purchase. In addtion to that the higher cost makes them less competitive here and on the global market.

This country doesn't have a tax revenue problem, it has a spending problem.

It has both, in my opinion.

I'd be more than willing to pay more taxes if it helps us get out of this mess. But, if my increased taxes allow other parties to pay less taxes... I wont fall for that.
