The Republican governor wants sole authority to decide if local municipalities are in a "financial crisis" at which time the gov. can fire all locally elected officials and appoint his own!
When power is removed from the people, that is big government! Is this the direction you want our country to head????

In Michigan this week, a bill backed by Governor Rick Snyder in the state legislature would allow state-appointed emergency financial managers (EFM) to take over local school districts and municipal governments for a variety of reasons. Forty-five EFMs are already in training. The proposed law would empower EFMs (like the Detroit Public School’s Robert Bobb) to dismiss elected officials, eliminate labor contracts, sell off assets (DWSD, Belle Isle) and borrow money that the residents would be forced to repay — without regard to our democratic rights. This is certain to be used first and worst against minority communities and school districts. This will help to create a new Jim Crow era, in which Black and Latina/o communities have no democratic rights, with separate and unequal schools, jobs, services and living conditions.

I'm guessing that the right thinks that if they ignore this stuff, it goes away. Since the November election the GOP has been on the fast track to destroy the middle class and what is left of our democracy.
Yikes. What would be the point in voting if the governor could simply "fire" the people you elected and appoint his own people in their place? Wouldn't this be unconstitutional?
Happened in NY. NY state took over Nassau county (Long Island) finances when they didn't take care of their problems.

"A state oversight board on Wednesday seized control of Nassau County’s finances, saying the county, one of the nation’s wealthiest and most heavily taxed, had nonetheless failed to balance its $2.7 billion budget."

Have you not noticed a dictatorial pattern since these folks took office in November? Walker is crashing and burning in Wisconsin and these guys will follow suit.

Have you noticed the financial situation these states are in, or are your rose colored glasses preventing you?

Mmmmmmm, that would shrink government. Silly lefties, they never get anything right!
That may be your fervent dream but we do live in a democracy may it be based upon popular representation.
You are absolutely wrong. We are a Republic governed by a Constitution (in theory), not by majority rule of people. Trust me, as a right-of-center country, liberals want no part in a true democracy.
