Vote for a qualified gay or just because someone is gay and running for president?

President of what?

We categorically tried that last election for US president with a special community organizer that had no mentionable experience for the office and that's not working out very well.

Lesson learned, no matter what social, racial or ethnic category, no experience, don't elect them. This is not the finals of 'dancing with the stars' or 'queen for a day'.

Why does it matter if it gay or straight.

Those of you vote of Obama and see what happened. I am not saying McCain is better than Obama, but when a candidate has no flaws is elected, then either he is a saint or he is a big freaking actor.

That's where you are wrong. Does an individual liberty HAVE to have been spelled out >200 years ago in order to be valid today? Your premise that there's a tie to the Democratic party is ridiculous since there are indeed quite a number of gay Republicans. It has nothing to do with votes or parties. That you think gay people enjoy privileges or special rights pretty much shows you don't think of them as equals, which is the foundation of your dilemma. Disallowing the continued oppression of a minority is the right thing to do. It is not some political ploy.

I'm a gay person and I know I'd make a damn good President: fiscal conservative, tax religion, prosecute the banksters, bring the troops home, close foreign bases, close the border and suspend immigration, develop alternative energies, protect the environment, expose corruption, publicly funded elections, legalize marijuana, social moderate, people before corporations, and finally, tell the truth no matter how difficult.

Just how do you propose you seperate a man's beliefs from his religion? A man's beliefs are shaped by his religion and culture. How bout I propose marx should never be a part of ones political agenda? In all fairness it's the same thing you are proposing?

In a society, you will always find a group that will benefit from certain individual liberties. No? The question is, however, do you prefer mob mentality over individual liberties?
We aren't talking individual liberties. Establishing specially protected federally social classes is based on human rights

Of course it's a political ploy, one guaranteed to placate, for now, demands made by the gay community that has, until recently, felt betrayed by mr obama and the democratic party.

Only two or three of these positions would appeal to consertives. Peoples such as myself from traditional cultures would not support you.

We can't evolve as a society if we pander to the most extreme elements of oppression and bigotry in the world.

Reminds me of when closed-minded, silly people thought it was outrageous to elect a Catholic as president. We'll evolve beyond these latest hang-ups of oppression. We always have in the past.

Btw - when you say 'traditional culture", what do you mean? It used to be tradition to have multiple spouses and to marry for political purposes. It used to be tradition for teenagers to marry adults. So, which traditional culture do you mean?

.....and yet there is at least one poster on this thread that believes no one should bring religious beliefs with him/her into office. Just how far have we come?

Of course I tend to feel an affinity for all people of what some call the country class; religion, marriage, children, work. Tho in my case I'm not much of a christian. We comprise some 50% of the us population and we tend to predominate in the flyover states. Maybe you've heard of us. Then again, probably not. Mr obama knows us as all those "bitter" people.

CultureOzark also refers to a region of people with a distinct culture, architecture,[42][44] and dialect shared by the people who live on the plateau. Early settlers in Missouri were American pioneers who came West from the Southern Appalachians at the beginning of the 19th century,[28][45] followed in the 1840s and 50s by Irish and German immigrants. Much of the Ozark population is of German, English and Scots-Irish descent, often including some Native American ancestry, and the Ozark families from which the regional culture derived[45] tend to have lived in the area since the 19th century.[46]...............
