It depends on the amount of radioactivity in the vapor. You can't just assume that it's chock full of radioactive goodness. In any case doubt it will reach the US.

Now there is a reactor with plutonium involved. That is far worse.

Mixed plutonium-uranium reactor in Japan loses coolant system as government evacuates 210,000 from area or quake-stricken nuke plant - Bellona
"A total of six reactors between the two plants are reported to be battling reactor coolant loss, said the ITAR-TASS Russian news agency on Sunday.

One hundred and ninty people have been reported as being in hospital with radiation poisoning, Slivyak said."

the Japanese are NOT telling the whole story and the media is completely downplaying wtf is going on. France has just urged ALL citizens to LEAVE TOKYO! Not only because of the reactor emergency but they are due for another massive quake again.

Japan is notorious for understating national emergencies.

I do not think they would lie purposely but I also do not think they are going to tell everything they know to the world.

For some reason I believe there is a lot not being told.

The question should be will the people on the west coast in America be effected at some point? And if so, when will those people be told?

No they do not control the media. Japan has a free press. Are you confused with China?

"Robert Barish, physicist and author of "The Invisible Passenger: Radiation Risks For People Who Fly," says, "People who work in the nuclear power industry on an average basis are getting 1.6 milliSieverts per year. And radon gas is endemic here in the NH bedrock and in basements, as well as in much of the US. Check out this national map for your exposure risk: http://spacemath.gsfc.nasa.gov/weekly/3Page11.pdf

Let's not forget that your kitchen microwave is radiating your food, but microwave ovens are found in 90% of our homes (and if nuclear power had their marketers, America would be energy-independent now instead of in constant MidEast Oil Wars and suffering constant energy-cost Recessions.

Fire is dangerous, but we don't make it unusable by placing so many bureaucratic and cost hurdles that it can't be used. Likewise, let's not allow the Oil and Coal Businesses to stop the one shot America has for economic health and long-term survival.
My education about N power came from the number of family members that died from radiation exposure. 2 If you can keep the genie in the bottle then all is good. But you can't not 100%.

Of course they are not telling the truth. Earlier there was news this reactor was to be decomissioned a month ago. Now the story has disappeared.
