BlackNews.com - Hurricane Katrina Rape and Murder Charges Were Exaggerated (http://www.blacknews.com/pr/rape101.html - broken link)
They have no official reports of rape and no eyewitnesses to sexual assault. The state Department of Health and Hospitals counted 10 dead at the Superdome and four at the convention center. Only two of those are believed to have been murdered.

Murder and rape - fact or fiction? | World news | The Guardian
And while many claim they happened, no witnesses, survivors or survivors' relatives have come forward.

Nor has the source for the story of the murdered babies, or indeed their bodies, been found. And while the floor of the convention centre toilets were indeed covered in excrement, the Guardian found no corpses.

Rape-Reporting Procedure Missing After Hurricane | Womens eNews
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WOMENSENEWS)--A heart-wrenching video of New Orleans singer/songwriter Charmaine Neville aired by WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge, La., shows one of the few rape reports coming out of the beleaguered area hit by Hurricane Katrina.
<snip>
Officials with the Houston Police Department told Women's eNews that police are taking reports only on rapes that reportedly occurred in their own jurisdiction. Two alleged rapes were reported in the Astrodome last week, but both were unfounded, they said.

That's your mentality not mine.

I am quite certain that I have had far more personal interactions with Japanese nationals and Japanese Americans in my life than you ever have.

I have a few Japanese Americans married into my family. I have dated two Japanese Americans. And I had a college roomate who was a Japanese national.

Sorry if you are easily able to be pulled into thinking that Japan is a utopia. Yes, there is a lot of honor in Japanese society (on the surface) but there is also an underworld that exists. Both are very real.

ETA: I find it quite odd that someone can be so deeply racist against one group and then feign offense at the reality of another. Hypocrisy at its fullest.

What is pathetic is that Americans would assume that looting is the "norm" rather than the stoic, cooperative and relatively calm way the Japanese are handling their national emergency.

You don't see looting in the USA during natural disasters outside of major urban areas. Take a look at floods and storms in the central USA, the slow federal response, and people doing what needs to be done before, during and after. This Spring the Dakotas and Minnesota are bracing for the worst flooding in over 40 years due to snowmelt. They have already begun filling sandbags and making emergency preparations at the state response levels.

In America, there is a need for sensationalism and an exploitation of the grotesque. The most outrageous, the most disturbing is always what gets reported. On the other hand, Asian societies tend to downplay the negative and things that "hurt" the image of perfection and the pristine are whitewashed and/or denied.

Interestingly, when natural catastrophes hit areas with decent people (not inner cities), there is never any problem. We had three hurricanes hit our suburban neighborhood in Florida, the power was out for over a month at a time, most roofs were severely damaged, both our sheds were reduced to wood splinters, and a large ficus tree with a truck about 3' thick was left a stump after all the branches ripped off.

Did we riot, steal from our neighbors, rape and cause havoc? Of course not. We all helped each other.

The residents of the inner cities, like Riviera Beach and West Palm Beach, naturally continued to rob and rape and shoot each other, just like they always do. Despite what the liberals say, people are not the same. Decent people stay decent even in a disaster, and low-class criminals would be committing crimes if you gave them a billion dollars and a mansion.

There is no "need for sensationalism". It is a figment of the Western media's imagination and journalism schools at liberal arts colleges/universities. "If it bleeds, it leads" is a behavior of choice by media entities, not a "need".

And what is "inner city" code for? Thinly veiled bigotry.

Oh no, you didn't really just go there! Why must you ALWAYS play the race card? Doesn't that chip get heavy?

The truth has no agenda. Learn you history a bit in regard to crime/looting in major US cities/urban centers compared to less densely populated areas following natural disasters. Facts are just those.

Sensationalism is absolutely what drives the needs of the media.

In Los Angeles, I have noticed that anytime the media wants the "Black" perspective they go to the poorest Black neighborhood in the city and ask them to speak for ALL Black people. The same with Latinos, they go to the poorest neighborhood in the heart of East LA. The need to get the most outrageous soundbite outweighs the need for a balanced perspective.

Ahhhh, the "no decent people" live in inner cities meme.
