Watch 2012. The giant is awakened.
Better go hide under your bed. You sound a wee bit terrified.

Screw the "all about the children" bull. All that does is give the conservatives and excuse to drastically cut the wages and benefits and act shocked when the union doesn't simply accept it "for the children". We are talking about JOBS here and like anybody and their jobs the number one priority should be the PAY AND BENEFITS

Teachers don't think that at all. My wife works for an oil company in Houston. That whole industry is full of people who get paid much more than teachers and would never even dream of taking work home with them. Their jobs, of course, are non-union.

Not even for a freaking second, no and again no. The schools are all, 100%, no questions asked, to be about educating our children, first second, third, ...ninteenth....

THEN...at some point, we discuss the teachers wages, benefits, etc. NOTHING about how the teachers can work can acceptably interfere with the education and teaching of the children in the schools.

I have 2 in public schools right now, and if the job doesn't pay well enough - QUIT, AND GOOD RIDDANCE.

But then again, are we seeing mass numbers of people quitting public employee positions? No.

Are we seeing ANY public employee opportunities not receiving massive numbers of resumes from lots of applicants? No.

So stop wasting our time with this nonsense.

True story - My husband has worked as a telecommunications tech for the last 14 years at a large school district. Near the holiday observed for Martin Luther King my husband went into a classroom to repair a phone. The teacher kept referring to Dr. Martin Luther King as Martin Luther. My husband asked if he could have a word with her. He explained to her that Martin Luther was priest and the observed holiday is for Dr. Martin Luther King. She told him to mind his own business.

I can just hear it all now, "These teachers make so much money they can stay home all summer!!!"
They probably have to stay home all summer to recover from spending all winter teaching children that are all messed up because of the parents that are complaining.
Yes, there probably is some jealousy. But what gets "year long" workers riled up is when teachers complain about how hard they have it. They're payed a full year salary for ten months of work and have outstanding benefits. No doubt it can be a very stressful job, but what about the soldiers who spend months or years away from their families fighting a war in a foreign land? How about the doctors and nurses who often work twelve hour shifts (or maybe even more)? What about the general contractor busting his butt all year in all types of weather? Or the police office who run the risk of getting shot at everyday? Don't they deserve summer vacations? Teaching can be stressful, but it doesn't take the cake compared to numerous other careers. Please spare the pity party.
