I hate to disappoint the astute posters who think they know the opinions of EVERY black person. However, in MY opinion, if a person of ANY race or ethnicity is unable to pass a test which is based on the standard and necessary requirements for the job, the person should not be hired, period.

I don’t expect, nor would I want special treatment. When I took the SAT and GRE exams, I took the standard exams, not a special “black” version. When I excelled in high school and college, I was required to study the same material, complete the same coursework, and pass the same midterms and finals as my white counterparts.

I attended predominately white schools from the first grade through the completion of my college education. Contrary to popular belief, I easily competed, without “special” accommodations.

Did the story mention if white applicants with higher scores were passed over for lower scoring black test takers?
If not then this just seems to be a case of the police dept not having a choice. They need cops and they are not getting quality applicants.

You didn't take the black SAT? I took the black ACT; it was awesome. They served Popeye's and Chek soda during the breaks

Black people like you...forget it. The issue is institutional racism and the administering of UNFAIR BIASED TESTING not SPECIAL TREATMENT.

I would agree with you here. I'm sure that there are blacks who can pass the test, however they are not the ones applying. The link said 258 more people passed the test but we don't know the races of those people.

Black people like me? Sorry, if I don’t fit your stereotype to suit your agenda.

Look, I respect police and firefighters, but the truth of the matter is that anyone with average or below average intelligence can perform their essential job functions.
