Japan earthquake: race to prevent a humanitarian disaster - Telegraph

In one town alone, the port of Minamisanriku in Miyagi prefecture, 9,500 people out of a total population of 17,000 were missing.
Seismologists yesterday upgraded the size of the “superquake” from 8.9-magnitude to 9.0, meaning it was twice as powerful as originally thought.
Naoto Kan, Japan’s prime minister, said the country was experiencing its worst crisis since the Second World War as it struggled to cope with the aftermath of the tsunami on several fronts.

I'm not reading much about the volcano that has started erupting in Japan. This is just terrible.

Small eruption on an active volcano not that big of a deal.

Why is poor Japan always the blunt of natural disasters...

I mean it goes back to those Godzilla disaster films of the 50's and 60's...

it's like they just can't catch a break...and I do believe Godzilla was born out of
a Nuclear accident, simular to the one that's occuring now with their reactors...wow...reality is starting to mimic fiction...

It's the location. You can't avoid natural disasters in the Ring.

The death toll is mammoth, and will continue to grow. I watched film on the Tsunami and the water was relentless, it took everything in it's path. Now the nuclear plants are beginning to fail. We have just seen the beginning.

They are all in my prayers.

And will soon be in your pockets, as a mass humanitarian drive has begun...

I sure wish I could do more to help...

I watched this almost all weekend on CNN. This is an all too believable tragedy. So very, very sad.
