Canadian boy moved to US over end-of-life dispute | US National Headlines | Comcast.net (http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-national/20110314/US.Canadian.Boy.End.of.Life.Dispute/ - broken link)
ST. LOUIS — A Canadian couple transferred their terminally ill toddler son to a Catholic hospital in St. Louis after an Ontario court ruled that doctors could remove the breathing tube keeping the boy alive.
Thirteen-month-old Joseph Maraachli arrived at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital on Sunday after the hospital agreed to treat the boy. The hospital issued a statement Monday saying Joseph arrived in serious but stable condition and was being evaluated by doctors there.
Hmmm. That's sad. I realize the parents don't want to have to see the kid die through suffocation, but I still don't think they are doing him any favor by dragging out his life a few months. This is an example of a case where euthanasia should be an option to prevent suffering.

It's a tough call, and one that I'm happy I don't have to make (knock wood).
And just think, obamacare will give us the same healthcare system as the Canadians have..
Can't 'ya just wait?
I asked what would you do? Not what Obamacare would do. If you had read the article, the parents moved the child here because a court in Canada said the doctors could remove a breathing tube. The child is terminally ill, and the parents want to have a trach tube inserted.
Now, to answer the OP question, what would you do?

I didn;t ask. What would you do? is what I asked. Would you remove the tube knowing your child will die now, or keep it, or insert a trach tube to extend his life 6 months.

I honestly wish Obama's healthcare plan would provide us the same quality that Canada's have.
If the kid was terminally ill, and had no chance to live, the doctors were doing nothing wrong. If I was in that position, I'd want my tube pulled too.
Although I don't blame the parents for not being able to let go, as I'm a parent myself, and I'd have hard time letting go myself.
If the toddler is indeed terminally ill with zero chance of surviving without the aid of constant machinery... it'd be the worst decision a parent could make, but the right one would be to let the child die in peace instead of dragging out the pain, agony, and suffering of the child, the parents, family, friends, and even the hospital staff who have take care of the child in such a state.

Money IS the issue.
Why should people in the US pay this bill??
BTW, I would pull the tube.
Being on a vent is not life.
