At some point it's going to happen. No sooner than one hour after news reports announced the Supreme Court announced their decision that Shirley Phelps was running her mouth saying the citizens of this country was going to see the amount of pickets at funerals triple.

It's pretty ironic that the last several pickets I've seen either on the television news or on youtube that more and more of the picket signs are being held up by little kids. I'm wondering when was the last time old man Phelps actually attended a picket himself as surely he would know someone would clean his plow for him if he showed up. Or worse.

One of the things that I've not seen opined on this issue (and Westboro has had several other threads covered on City Data) is the Supreme Court's timing of this decision. How long have they been sitting on this case? Months? A year? Maybe longer? And the family who brought this suit waiting all this time, I can't imagine what they were going through all this time.

Absolutely disgusting.

that's pretty standard behaviour. i have never had an issue with queens, except this one dude at gym who would stare at the gentals of everyone in the showers. in my quest to conquer vast numbers off the opposite sex though, i always found it quite convenient that a good percentage of the competiton was eliminated by virtue of their affection for other potential players.

What gets me is that this group goes around protesting the funerals of men and women who pay the ultimate sacrifice to protect their rights to do this. I don't think that they think for a second that if these men and women weren't protecting their freedoms they would not be able to stand on the street corner and holler out all this hateful crap because they would not be allowed to. It just makes my heart so heavy. As a wife of an Active Duty Sailor in the United States Navy this absolutely shatters my heart to see them be so disrespectful. I just don't think I could stand it if they showed up if Heaven Forbid something should happen to my husband in the line of duty. I just cry my eyes out thinking of the families who have to worry about them showing up at their loved ones funeral. They don't need that on top of trying to bury their husband, son, dad, wife, daughter, mother, etc. I am just so so so so grateful for the patriot guard riders. I agree that they should have the right to protest, but I just hate how they go about it. They could find another way. I just think doing it at funerals is wrong.

They were talking about this guy on the radio recently.

I'm speechless.

That usually takes quite a lot.

The seeds of another Jonestown.
Singular, one of a kind.

IMO they are ego lunatics who have no respect for anyone other than themselves. As a member of the Patriot Guards I can only say it is sad that the media gives them the platform they so desperately seek. When we are requested by the family to escort a soldier, we make no contact, verbal or otherwise, with WBC. We are there to protect the family and stand for the soldiers who stood for us.

Personally, I think they see their First Amendment rights as a cash cow. They find the most offensive ways to speak out and then sue when their First Amendment rights have been "violated".

Thank you Chowhound. The soldier deserves respect, as does the flag we carry. I would not lower myself to their level by engaging them. When an entire town lines the roads as we ride in on motorcycles, escorting the family and soldier, the WBC is a minutae fly on sh*t that doesn't deserve acknowledgement. My spouse and I both are members and it is an honor for which we are humbled everytime we have to bring a soldier home.

If you are interested in helping military families, contact HELP ON THE HOMEFRONT in your area. Many soldiers are deployed and the families are having difficulties, sometimes with repairs to their homes, food, etc.
