Yep, that's right. A whole $0 of taxpayer money.

Way to go House, wasn't that time well-spent.

"It should also be noted that despite the eye-rolling Republican rhetoric this morning about the need to cut spending, while the bill imposes certain prohibitions on the use of federal funds, it does not actually do anything with the money. Which is why the CBO scores the bill at a net budget savings of... zero dollars."

Conservatives won't get rid of NPR, donations from supporters will probably start to soar now.
I listen to it regularly, within the American radio landscape NPR is in a class of its own

Like they think it will silence their objectors... how about we defund the pension plans of the house and senate? Now that would save us some $$$'s

Hurray!!!

I agree with the (R) Rep who said, "We're not defunding NPR. We are LIBERATING IT FROM PUBLIC DOLLARS!"

It doesnt violate the Constitution either. In fact FUNDING NPR could be deemed the violation of the Constitution.

And as for it being a violation of the rule of law, I know the title of your story says it is, but then it sights evidence that its not

After the federal government similarly singled out ACORN, a federal court ruled the defunding was an unconstitutional bill of attainder. A federal appellate court reversed, but on grounds specific to the facts of the case.

Why is this bill illegal but defunding ACOR not illegal?

If the PRESIDENT was defunding it would be illegal, but Congress is allowed to if they wish..

It doesnt say that ANYWHERE in your link..

It says they are removing it from taxpayer dollars, but this doesnt mean NPR wont have any money.. NPR raises lots of money and will continue to do so...

Thats NOT saving US $0

Geez, Got a headache yet?

It doesn't say what anywhere in my link? The stated purpose of this particular Congress is to cut spending, is it not?

Congress voted today to defund NPR which I thought was to save taxpayer money and cut spending.
To that end, I guess, someone had the CBO score the savings to be gained by cutting said funding. The CBO scored the total net savings TO THE TAXPAYERS at $0.
You yourself state that they are removing it from taxpayer dollars which is all I was speaking to.
Whether NPR still raises money from other sources has nothing to do with them receiving or not receiving federal funds, which is all today's vote was about.
All I intended was to point out yet another hypocritical political vote by Congress who mew constantly about deficit reduction while wasting time grandstanding on votes like this one that have zero effect.

What I find most relevant about this is how similar the two situations are.

Essentially Congress had decided to validate a lying, scheming criminal and is essentially taking their marching orders from him and his supporters.

Ironic that people still condemn Dan Rather for his lies but swallow this brat's drivel as if it was the finest champagne.
