Canada sent 6 F-18's and 125 support personal and we are part of the US force and landed yesterday at the US airbase in southren italy. I think we have the oldest planes out of the ones that have been pledged last update was 2004 on them but oh well the F-35 is supposed to be here by 2014-2016 and we have bought 65. but I think 10-12 F-18 superhornets would be a good interim jet for now along with the old F-18's
I started out opposed to this action (none of our damn business). I've been educating myself on what's actually going on and why, and have come around to more or less supporting it. As I said in another thread, it's purely speculation on my part, I admit, but I'm getting the feeling that this is going to be similar to the Somali pirate deal, where Obama sent the military in and, slam, bang, snipers took them out and we came home. Quick and dirty. Crisis over.
So long as we are taking a back seat to other nations and are merely offering to lend support if needed, I'm starting to see this as a stunningly brilliant political move on Obama's part. We're showing our allies that we have their backs like they've had ours in the recent past, but we aren't taking the reins here.
I was wrong in predicting no U.S. "bullets" being fired, seeing how that's just happened. But again, I'm predicting a focused, "sniper-style" attack that sees immediate results, as opposed to a protracted "war" of any sort.
Thank you, Jill, I live in a cave and don't have access to satellite tv
