It's about to escalate for a longer time than we were told. Obama now has come out and said regime change is their ultimate goal, not protecting the rebels with a NFZ.
Gotta love the dizzying and chaotic foreign policy message of this guy. But hey, as long as he has a big enough mob of other nations behind him, he can do anything he wants, and does not even need US approval either.
Hey everyone, the US military is now the world community's military, use of it is free, use it how ever you like, but just be sure to return it promptly when you are done using it.
Do you remember it wasn't Saddam who bombed the WTC? Do you remember that Bush had an Iraq agenda before he ever came into power? That he lied about WMD? Remember that?
The qualifier for registering republican is being a congenital liar and throwing your country under a bus to feel tall for 5 minutes. BRAVO!
Before Bush came into office, Clinton had a regime change agenda for Iraq, Clinton and leading democrats made dozens of speeches detailing how Saddam was a threat to world and US national security, Bush received Congressional authorization to invade Iraq, and all he did was repeat everything that was said by Clinton and democrats. Get over it.
What happens if the rebels do not win?
What if the Libyan loyalists don't win either?
What if there is a stalemate?
How long should we keep bombing?
You seem to be ignoring the sole purpose of this mission, which has been stated quite clearly by our President.
Barack Obama: "Now, here is why this matters to us. Left unchecked, we have every reason to believe that Qaddafi would commit atrocities against his people. Many thousands could die. A humanitarian crisis would ensue. The entire region could be destabilized, endangering many of our allies and partners. The calls of the Libyan people for help would go unanswered. The democratic values that we stand for would be overrun. Moreover, the words of the international community would be rendered hollow.
"And that's why the United States has worked with our allies and partners to shape a strong international response at the United Nations. Our focus has been clear: protecting innocent civilians within Libya, and holding the Qaddafi regime accountable.
We are participating in enforcing the NFZ to ensure the safety of innocent civilians from Moammar Qaddafi, and to ensure the region does not become destabilized and endanger our allies and partners due to Qaddafi's actions.
Once Qaddafi has been rendered powerless to "show no mercy and no pity" to his citizens, Job Done.
If the citizenry breaks out into a civil war between themselves after that, well, we'll have to discuss next steps, then. But this mission is quite clear.

We are bombing ONLY Libyan gov't forces, even though rebel forces are attacking cities...aren't the rebels then endangering civilians?
The Libyan government is not losing to the rebels right now,so what should be done if there is a stalemate?
Does the mission allow us to coordinate attacks with the rebels against the Libyan gov't?

It's not about citizens being in danger from one another, it's about the leader of a nation partaking in mass slaughter of his citizens from his position of superior military power. There is a distinction, which is a very important one, and one that you keep either glossing over, or confusing and co-mingling.

Of course the Libyan government isn't "losing" to the rebels. And in fact, that's exactly the outcome that's being aimed for, though stated in the reverse.

So rebels killing civilians is okay?
You do know the rebels are armed with tanks, jet fighters and heavy weapons right?

I guess the idea that this war is to stop the deaths of civilians and allowing one side to attack civilian areas is a little....stupid.

The desired outcomes is a continuing war,a stalemate in the civil war?
I'm done going around in circles with you, oz. You're either never going to understand, or you're deliberately not understanding. Either way, it's a waste of my time. Have a nice day.

LOL... haven't got anything but the talking points huh?
Basically,if it is the rebels or the coalition killing civilians,it is okay.
If the gov't of Libya does it,it is wrong and we should bomb them.
Funny thing is,Iraq's gov't was killing their people but that wasn't a good enough reason to bomb them ir force regime change to the same people now supporting do the same to Libya.
What a difference a 'D' makes.
And thanks,I am having a great day,up in NC,working on our new home and enjoying the peace..
