These soldiers are currently going through a court martial. Commanders bracing for public fury.
God damn America!! God damn America!! God damn America!!
If anyone claims to worship the God of Abraham and aspire to live in accordance to the morale standard as exemplified by Jesus and the prophets then they must join me in the above refreign. There is no way that such actions can be defended by those who claim to worship the God of Abraham. Good must be encouraged and evil must be condemned. There is no middle ground.

If you don't know, or you do know and you don't want to say, just say so. I make no apologies here for anyone, but it's interesting what happens when someone asks a simple question around here.
Does anyone really expect that we can send a bunch of 20-somethings in to hell and not expect a few to lose their humanity? These events are exceptions to the rule and they're being punished for it. It isn't as if they're being praised for their actions.
They ARE NOT EXCEPTIONS .... these events are common, and systematic, and has been reported as such by returning soldiers.
Most of the killing of civilians are in inadvertent insofar as intent is concerned on the part of the soldiers ... yet, dropping bombs and firing missiles into city buildings are anything but accidental. And these civilians have no where to go to be safe. And this takes a heavy psychological toll on the fine, compassionate soldiers:
Then there are the intentional acts of killing, which is far more common than the US military command will ever admit ... but they encourage and perpetuate these acts by looking the other way, and sometimes ordering a mission that is pure S&D. Leave nothing alive.
The experts say that as many as 10% of the general population are sociopaths ... meaning that they are incapable of empathy for others. Chances are, everyone reading this personally know several of these types of people ... if ten read this, the odds are one will be one. These are not psychopaths ... they are sociopaths ... big difference. You work with them .. you have them as neighbors ... and you often cannot recognize them because they've become good at behaving just like you. They mimic the behavior of compassion and empathy as a learned response ... but it is not a feeling to them, it is just a skill they've acquired in order to be socially acceptable. And in regular society, they really aren't necessarily dangerous .... not like a true psychopath who really is dangerous ... they just may be more prone to be selfish, and uncaring.
But when you take such types of people out of civilized society, and place them in a war zone of killing, they no longer need to exercise those social skills, and they can easily become ruthless killers without a conscience. So, in the case of Iraq and Afghanistan, if you have 500,000 troops engaged between those two wars, you are going to have as many as 50,000 sociopaths running around with automatic weapons, grenades, mortars and rockets, helicopter gunships and fighter bombers. And 50,000 men armed like that can do a lot of killing.
God **** America!! God **** America!! God **** America!!

In the fear of going off-topic here, I wouldn't expect anyone who claims to worship God to also use his name in vain and join your tirade chant.
We've all heard the phrase that a picture paints a thousand words. The United States is trying to win a war in a country that people already hate us and incidents like these just set back all of the sacrifices of honorable soldiers over the past 8 years.
The suspects are accused of having killed civilians for no reason and then of trying to make it look as though the killings had been acts of self-defense. Some of the accused have said the acts had been tightly scripted.
In one incident, which has been reconstructed based on documents from the investigation, the soldiers themselves detonate a hand grenade in order to make it look like they were the subjects of an attack before killing a man.
The 12 soldiers are also facing further charges of desecration of corpses, illegal possession of photos of corpses, drug abuse and acts of bodily injury against comrades.
