Sorry Maineah,.. this time it's the Republicans that are "ticked off" at the Governor.

Fellow Republicans believe he will rein in personal criticism of opponents for the sake of comity.
AND,... the mural was paid for by a grant from the U.S. Dept. of Labor. Gov. LePage STOLE it. He may be looking at some legal issues.

That's easy to resolve. Give it back to the U.S. Dept of Labor. They can put it wherever they want, just not at the State Deparment of Labor.

Does the federal grant specify which state office must display the mural? If not, there's probably a forest ranger station in the boonies in Maine that needs decorationg.

Why is GRANT money being given for such a stupid thing to begin with. Maybe that's part of the reason we're broke.

From what I garner, yes,.. It was specifically created for the Dept. Of Labor (after being voted for from a number of choices). It was paid for by a grant by the U.S. Dept. of Labor that was applied for by the State of Maine's Dept. of Labor. Further, to satisfy the contract with the U'S. Dept. of labor, reimbursement would have to be at "current market value". Considering the publicity surrounding the removal, the market value has increased.

A letter from the artist -she did not join the lawsuit as she prefers to be known as an artist not an activist.

It's a piece of historical art. Unions were a part of that history - like it or not.

It was installed, and because of a fax whining about some 'interpretation' of a drawing, it's going to cost us even more in the long run.

Personally, between that and the p*ss*ng contest with PA over a stupid piece of cake with frosting in the middle, I've pretty much thrown up my hands with this state's ability to legislate using even one modicum of common sense. We'll save that for the stupid people who don't buckle up, or choose to be an idiot by texting while driving.

We have prostituted ourselves as "Vacationland" for so long now that we're fully reaping what we've sown. Whether or not there's a Democrat or a Republican in office, it shall remain "Vacationland." Paul LePage isn't going to stop it anymore than John Baldacci did.

Nationally, we've become a consumer society and guess what? That's what we'll remain because unless we want to teach our children Asian and send them overseas to the jobs that have flown over there, they'll have little choice but to don a paper hat and serve fries - union or not.

There I said it. Now I feel better.

Quote:
The Federal Art Project was one of the divisions of the W.P.A. created under Federal Project One. President Franklin D. Roosevelt had made several attempts prior to the F.A.P. to provide employment for artists on relief, namely the Public Works of Art Project (P.W.A.P.) which operated from 1933 to 1934 and the Treasury Department Section of Painting and Sculpture which was created in 1934 after the demise of the P.W.A.P. However, it was the F.A.P. which provided the widest reach, creating over 5,000 jobs for artists and producing over 225,000 works of art for the American people.

It is this legacy of the thousands of workers who labored at their craft for little money but great pride which we have to inspire us today. Although many of these works of art have been destroyed or stolen, those that remain must be preserved. They stand as a reminder of a time in our country’s history when dreams were not allowed to be destroyed by economic disaster.
