Is Gov. Brian Sandoval the white knight Nevada Republicans have been waiting for?
Fractured by the 2010 elections, the GOP certainly seems in need of rescue. And leaders on the national and state levels point to the popular and telegenic Sandoval as a promising standard-bearer.
As Nevada's first Hispanic governor, he's the rising hope of Republicans organizing to better compete in the 2012 election. A U.S. Senate seat, four House districts and the White House will be at stake as well as control of the Nevada Legislature, where the GOP's goal is to retake the Senate majority.

Waiting what happened to Jindal? Wasn't he the rising hope? Or was it Scott Walker... No wait it was Nikki Hayley? No... Chris Christi? No...

I give up. There is a new rising hope every week. Problem is, none of them seem to rise or give me much hope.

Thread title says nothing about Nevada...but:

"Richardson was elected governor of New Mexico in November 2002, having defeated the Republican candidate, John Sanchez, 56–39%. During the campaign, he set a Guinness World Record for most handshakes in eight hours by a politician, breaking Theodore Roosevelt's record.[26] He succeeded a two-term Republican governor, Gary E. Johnson. He took office in January 2003 as one of two Hispanic Governors in the United States, the other being then-Governor Sila María Calderón of Puerto Rico."

There seems to be a myth that one Latino candidate is going to appeal to every Latino. It's a huge fallacy. An East Coast Puerto Rican or Dominican is probably going to have different political viewpointts that an Mexican-American living in the Southwest. And that person is going to have different political viewpoints than a Cuban-American living in South Florida. A Salvadorian American in Southern California is going to think differently than all the other groups I mentioned.

It will be interested to see if he decides to continue as governor or make a presidential bid. It will even more interesting to see what kind of support he can get in the GOP especially IN THE SOUTH. No GOP candidate can be a serious presidential contender without strong support in the South. I'd also be very interested to hear his views on illegal immigration. It can’t see him get a lot of support from the far-right wing of the Conservative Movement if he is perceived as soft on illegal immigration. One the other hand if he comes out as being hard on illegal immigration it cuts some his support in the Latino community.

The political climate and polticians in this country are going to get increasingly diverse in the 20 years. It's going to be interesting to see how it all turns out.
