SS isn't actually a cost.. Its a deduction from a savings account we paid into.. OP "word picture" As the CFO of the Banking Institution where you pay your mortgage, I am sad to inform you that due to poor choices made by those of us who run the bank, and in order that to look good too the general public, its been decided that we will NOT count your last 5 years of mortgage payments and we must foreclose on your home.. How is that sitting with YOU! You see OP we did pay in all the funds needed for our checks but "someones" Borrowed lots of it, 736 Billion of dollars of it, and NOW the account is short of funds..

Nah, a recession or depression isn't worth it. We can focus on increasing our economy and gradually cutting spending.

Cut The Military Budget in Half.. That will pay back SS in about 3 years. Why do we need to spend more on our military than the Next 8 largest militaries in the world... COMBINED?

This has been tried before, more or less. The result was, the taxes were increased, the spending never was, and in fact the spending increased. Politicians just can't stand to have money that is unspent.

No REAL cuts are gunna happen, the national debt will continue to go up...just like it has since the founding of this nation.

Fiat-currency is the ULTIMATE tool for Fedgov to gain more and more power and control. Parties D or R have NO intention of messing with a good thing.

I'd be hard pressed to find another item in the budget that's a bigger waste than foreign aid. Raise the retirement age and allow Americans the option of opting out of SS altogether and for all Americans under 18 eliminate SS and Medicare. For those on SS and Medicare leave it untouched. For those 19-54 create a voucher system for Medicare. Get out of all foreign nations and end all of our foreign wars. Untangle our foreign policy from Israel's. Cut of the magnets that attract illegal immigrants that mooch of our system and deport any illegal immigrant we can find.

But most importantly we must end our debt-based currency. Debt-based currency is a scourge and a cancer. The Federal Reserve must be ended and we must have a sound currency not based on debt. Whatever we do, absolutely DO NOT raise taxes! Do the people that advocate that actually believe our politicians will actually shepherd that money responsibly and use it to balance the budget? NO! They will just continue to spend it. The only way to solve the spending problem is give them less money to spend.
We can never "pay off the debt" as it is impossible under our current debt based system for what it's worth. So when I hear people who support debt based currency speak of "paying off the debt" I giggle a little bit. Every dollar created by the Federal Reserve is another dollar of debt we find ourselves in.
Agreed 100%. People don't seem to understand the relationship between currency created (20% of that circulating) and debt. The other 80% is "created" digitally through the private banking system by loaning money with only 10% reserves.

If we "balance the budget" with our current system, we markedly reduce the circulating cash supply in the economy and risk a recession/depression.

I dont know why I couldn't "rep" you for your comment, but the system would not allow me to do so.

Veterans benefits and Federal Employee Pension and benefits account for part.

We're already collecting record tax revenues. Why would we need to raise taxes even more?

No, we need significant spending cuts. Specifically cuts on leech support spending.
