Read a Christian book and write a book report instead of community service.
This example demonstrates one of the worst violations of church and state I have seen!

Quote:
He offered nine defendants a unique opportunity in place of community service. He asked them to read the book “The Heart of the Problem” and then come back in a few months and talk with him about the book.

“The Heart of the Problem” is a Bible study that touts itself as a workbook that provides insights for victorious Christian living. The suggestion didn’t sit well with some attorneys who say the judge is violating the constitution.

How can anyone not see this as a constitutional violation?

How would you feel if a judge required a defendant to read the Koran as a sentence?

So focusing on a Christian 'solution' as an alternative to community service is a BS ruling... that's what.

Maybe them reading something with a Islamic or Buddhist bent would be ok?

Boo hoo my....

If you could come up with a study of the koran that would have the same effect (however doubtful that would be) and give the person the choice of it, or community service, I wouldn't have an issue with it.

what law is being violated by it?

Is this judge part of Congress? Did he endorse any particular religion by it? I would actually side w/you that if the only option was to read the book, yes--that's wrong. if he gave a choice of it, or an alternative service I don't see an issue.

It is said that for the last 40 years it is unconstitutional, but for the 190 before that it was not.
Interpreted by the people that composed it, is much different than that after Madeline Murry O`Hair got her say.

The government is to stay out of GODS business(King George for example), but says nothing of GOD staying out of the Governments business.
