I find many Libertarian ideals fascinating but the theories behind it are unproven. I love the idea of no more wars-what Liberal would be threatened by that? The concepts you wrote strike fear and hope in all types(liberal, conservative, fascist) because they go all over the place. The "no handouts" one is so vague as to be almost pointless. Lets face it only if all the other things work in making the world a better place and making unemplyment be obsolete would the no handouts be needed. To have a government without anything in place to help people is not progress, it's regress. I feel we should all be willing to give a "hand out". A helping hand. The food stamp system has been overhauled, other forms of benevolence can ne overhauled-not deleted.

Many liberals are part of the Libertarian movement Dude.

Well since we've proven that both parties' ideals are incapable of leading this country, how about trying some unproven ones?

Social liberal vs social libertarianism? Difference?
Liberal: I want to legalize gay marriage.

Libertarian: Marriage isn't a governmental issue.

Then why do libertarians like Ron Paul support DOMA?

Not true. However some those who claim that all libertarians want a "dog eat dog" society and completely abolishing all government are off base. For instance I lean libertarian but see a need for a safety net for medical care for those in a bad situation. Claiming "it isn't my problem about you or them" I don't agree with.

No. Don't you remember those signs at the TP rallies: "Keep your hands off my Medicare"? How Un-Libertarian is that?

Then you're not a Libertarian. They think private charity can take care of that.

Because he's a Republican

You know, I've been reading this thread, and I'm a
libertarian. We don't like war, but that does not
mean we would not engage in one. We just don't
believe in intervention type wars. We would defend
this country if attacked, just like anyone, at least
most of us anyway. We just don't believe in the
draft to do so.

We also don't believe in no government at all.
Just agencies that are useless, not needed,
or could be better served if done in the private sector.
In our present government, there are too many to
mention

I think people confuse the libertarian party to mean;
going back in time. The present libertarian party
knows what century we are in and realize the
things that need to be changed, and those things that
should stay, to make us a prosperous, free, civilized
society.

Every party has ideals in theory, that can not work
in reality. It's just a foundation - of which to govern,
with direction
