Lots of people shouldn’t have children. Besides that, what is the problem with giving the children a little help? This country can afford to build another bomb or spend more on our already bloated military so what’s the problem with throwing a bone to the people who need it most?

In my opinion, thus is one of the toughest issues we are facing. No good solution, and I hoestly believe both sides are trying their best to address it.

For the sake of tranparency, I am an independent but lean liberal socially, a little right financially. This issue cuts me where they intersect.

The problem is that there is no good solution for every situation. Sadly in my own extended family I have someone who has never workes and is worjing on her third child, all on public assistance, and sadly it seems part of the motivation is to get benefits. Denying that this happens does not help anyone. And it isn't right. By the taxpayers or the children that are created for this purpose.

But I am absolutely certain that the safety net is necessary for those who encounter hard times. And of course I don't believe the sins of the parent should be visited upon the kids.

But how to reconcile? In a perfect world we would have equality of opportunity where every kid has an even playing field and can choose to work and exceed or otherwise, but we all know that is not reality.

I wish I had the answers. But I don't. What I think I do know on this topic in particulat is that painting it in black and white terms is the best way to ensure it is never solved. And that us a shame because you are right, the innocent kids are the ones that pay the price.

Because it's the world's easiest moral decision. When you're faced with a hungry kid, you feed the kid. Full stop, and I don't give two hoots about how starving someone's children is supposed to MOTIVATE the parents to work.

Idiotic, isn't it? It wasn't all that long ago when parents actually took some responsibility. Bought bread and lunch meat or PB&J and made kids a lunch to take to school. For pennies a day. But today-even that minimal act of responsibility for your kids is too much for many. But in spite of the fact that the taxpayers pay for hot meals for kids every single day, the parents still load up on soda and crap with EBT cards. And more and more people with no means of supporting them pop out more and more kids. It's no wonder our society is getting dumber every single year.

The real answer? *crickets*

They don’t have one. You either do what they think you should or everyone suffers. They think everyone should have the same mindset as them.
