Well his skin is black so that might have something to do with it. Many multiracial people identify with the race they look like. Also you have the whole thing in how they were viewed by society as a whole. Those with one white parent and one black parent were often viewed by society as a whole as being black, and also they were generally even considered that by the government.

White society recognize two races. White and non-white. Obama would have gotten hell from white folks if he just came out and claimed to be white.

What does this matter anyway?

I think anyone can tell he is half white & half black,

Do forms now days have a check box for multiracial?

Last time I filled a form it asked if white, black, latino, asian or other.

Maybe a mixed race just checks what they think they look like, okay?

Obama 's looks appear to be the black race, to me, I doubt if he'd check white.

Maybe he should have checked white, so everyone could blame more on him.

You can check more than one race on those forms, especially because Latino is not a race and therefore someone who checked Latino would have to check one of the other choices.

I believe if you READ the OP,it states what could have been done....

It could have been a historic teaching moment. Instead, President Obama, the most famous mixed-race person in the world, checked off only one race — black — last year on his census form. And in so doing, he missed an opportunity to articulate a more nuanced racial vision for the increasingly diverse country he heads.

It isn't a rule anymore perhaps???

Bottom line: Some biracial people identify more with their Black side for whatever reason. How Obama chooses to self-identify is his personal decision. Stop over-analyzing everything.
Take it up with the LA Times.
