This is a good idea and would give the people the opportunity about who is serious about cutting spending.

I agree. Our defense budget is more than possibly needed.
It is as much as it is, because of all the skimming off the top to pay off election time buddies.

The main job of our central government is national security and defense, not offense.
Next comes foreign policy to protect our citizens economically in the world.

That is all our central government is suppose to be in charge of. NOTHING ELSE!

A grade of F comes in the last 2 years

At least Bush had D's
Clinton had C's
Reagan had a combination of B's and C's

You would have to go back to JFK to get close to A's.

They have been failing at those two

You are correct with your post, but we won't see it happen, not with the remaining 6 months of the 2011 budget nor with the 2012 budget. Every department in the US gov't should have to cut their budget if we want our deficit to go down, and defense is one of those. In addition to cutting budgets though, we need to increase our revenue and the only way to do that is to raise taxes. Everyone is all onboard with cutting budgets, but once you bring up raising taxes everyone freaks out. How anyone can think that either party is serious right now about attacking the deficit is beyond me.

Greater than 50% of our defense budget is inallocable to "protecting our country." Yes, cruise missiles in Libya, aid to Israel and bases in Europe don't involve protecting our country IMO.

Ok let me get this straight. Defense only protects the GOP?
