I'm gay, and I'm not ashamed of who I am. People who accept me can become my friends. People who don't accept me can be my neighbors. I'm tired of people who say "I respect your homosexuality, but I disapprove your lifestyle." That is just a sugar coating of "I think you are wrong for being who you are, and you should be condemned." Please! If you don't like me, if you think I'm disgusting, say it to my face. I won't sue you or cause you any trouble. Don't pretend to like me in front of me and hate me behind my back.

I really dislike the word tolerance.
I've always thought that was a weird word to try and push on people all the time. In other parts of society, saying you "tolerate" something isn't exactly the most glaring stamp of approval. It's generally used as a word to describe something you really don't like that much but you can deal with it.

Tolerance in American culture context, in my view, means that "I hate what you are doing, but I have no choice but standing you."

Well take one look at the Westboro Baptist Church that was protesting at solidiers funerals etc. saying the tolerance for gays was dooming us in gods eyes etc.

Their intolerance and extreme antics made their position look so bizarre and stupid that it made others stop and reflect upon their own views.

Basically, a major intolerant a-hole can make the position of intolerance look especially bad and steer others away from similar thoughts and behaviors.
