That totally counts as diversity.

We have a lot of Amish in our local cultural mix. Would liberals count that as "diverse"?

They most certainly are. The politically correct and liberal schools certainly are.

It was so funny here, they actually told the kids to dress like Mexicans on Cesar Chavez day, and that's absurd as when you look at Mexicans, often they dress no different than Ameicans.

They want you to think they are for diversity. The trouble is, when someone says anything they don't agree with, they don't want to have anything to do with that individual rather than agreeing to disagree. And, above all, they hate Republicans.

So, therefore, the left does not really embrace diversity.

Absolutely!

In my opinion when we speak of diversity in this way, we do not just mean different opinions. Diversity in such discussions usually means different ethnic groups, races, religions, cuisines, maybe even mother tongues, etc.
In Atlanta the Amish would be considered a contribution to diversity, but in rural Pennsylvania or Ohio probably not so much.

I would just like to point out that it is inaccurate to use diversity as a code word for "race." It encompasses gender, age, ability, education status, sexual orientation, marital status, economic status, and just about anything else that makes humans different from each other.

It's really very hard for me to see why anyone would be obsessed with it or afraid of it or mad about it. And yet people are?

Yes this country is a "melting pot", but forcing us to have diversity has to have some repercussions, right?
If anything it is the conservatives who seem obsessed with diversity, considering the threads created on the subject and arguments within various threads.
