Jon Meade Huntsman, Jr. (born March 26, 1960) is an Americanpolitician and diplomat. He is the United States Ambassador to China until his resignation comes into effect on April 30, 2011. He previously served as the 16th Governor of Utah from 2005 until August 11, 2009, when he resigned during his second term in office to become Ambassador to China.
Despite the fact that everything he says there is correct, Republicans won't vote for someone who says that.
He's also not a climate change denier and he supports civil unions; although that has become the conservative position, it's likely not conservative enough for the Republican base.
He also accepted an appointment as ambassador from Barack Obama, whom the Republicans hate more than Castro, Mao, and Stalin put together.
Finally, it's not his turn.
So no, even in a party that seems prepared to take a casino magnate and TV huckster like The Donald seriously, he has no chance.
His Mormonism doesn't fly in some influential circles either. That's too bad because he actually has some common sense that is so rarely exhibited in the ideological diatribes of his fellow party members.

I could see myself voting for Huntsman. I have disagreements with him that I can respect, he doesn't go out of his way to attack or slime others, and I have agreements with him on many broad issues. His willingness to put country above party in representing America as ambassador to China is laudable; my only worry is that a presidential campaign can change a lot of people for the worse (see Obama and McCain 2008).
The main problem with Huntsman is few people, other than political junkies, have any idea who he is. He is totally off the public's radar. On the other hand that could work to his advantage and he would turn into a dark horse candidate that captures the voter's imagination.
Huntsman if he gets the nomination I think would be the strongest GOP contender in the General, I don't think he has much of a chance at the nomination though, way too moderate for the base.
