ChattyPatty, what would you have liberals do to change the moral and sexual values of this country?

I identify as a liberal, and I'd like to share with you a little about my life, since you seem so convinced that we need to start with ourselves: I married my college sweetheart at age 21 (we were both virgins at the time); we both finished college and bought our first house a couple of years later; after nine years, we were thrilled to welcome our first of two children, and I left my career to become a full-time parent; after 21 years, we are still happily married and monogamous, we have a close circle of wonderful friends, and our idea of a good time is hanging out as a family.

My husband has a demanding job, but he still manages to be home to have dinner with his family nearly every night. We have paid off our house and are completely debt-free, living so far under our means that we will be able to pay for our kids to attend college without relying on Stafford loans and will have plenty put aside for retirement even without Social Security (fingers crossed). Nobody in our circle drinks to excess or does drugs, and we spend our free time happily volunteering as coaches and Scout leaders within our community.

Our family is politically-active because we feel strongly that the taxes we pay, which are considerable given our annual income, should be spent for the benefit of our fellow man. We believe in environmental causes, healthcare for all Americans, and equal marriage rights, and we joyfully put our time and money behind those causes.

That's a liberal lifestyle in a nutshell. Where do you suggest I start with those changes you think are so imperative?

If he's so passionate about PP, he won't have any problem starting a foundation to fund it, so taxpayer dollars aren't needed. Or is he a typical Lib - loves to say where other people's money goes?

You sound like a very principled person, even by conservative standards! I would say that based on liberals I have known in my life from work and through family, both original and by marriage, many do not hold these kinds of values at all. I also look at political stances associated with liberals and find very little to admire, and a lot that shocks. It's why I seldom vote Dem anymore, even though I remain one in the registry.

What can liberals do? Give up the notion that morality is all relative, that whatever anyone does is okay, that it's always wrong to judge (it's not, and in fact, liberals do a lot of judging anyway, as does everyone). Give up the notion that marriage is not necessary, that casual sex is perfectly normal (it's not!) One woman I know counseled her daughter only to have sex with boys "she liked a lot." Well glad to know there are SOME standards!

That's the sort of thing I mean. Of course, I live in Portland Oregon which is a leftist mecca, so could explain why I see so much of what I see.

And Conservatives don't want to determine where others' money goes? Try again.

Boehner blubbering about his personal good fortune, O'Donnell blubbering about the misfortunes of this women, yep, same thing.

Actually, I'm sure she uses it because it's cheap and available. Leaving her more money for partying and cell phones, computers, ipods, etc, I'm guessing.

Nowhere in the post does it say that this college student is financially fraught, and unable to pay for it. Just that she has no insurance, campus health doesn't provide the cheap care she wants, and PP does. It might be that she's just unwilling.

There are places you can obtain info on the requirements to qualify for Title X services, if you really want to understand the program. Otherwise, continue with your nonsensical ranting.
