I suppose this could be in entertainment, but I'm looking more at the political/historical aspects than entertainment. The show follows the father, Joe Kennedy, sons Jack and Bobbie, and their families. So far nothing about Teddie, the my introduce him in the last couple of episodes.
I learned alot, especially about Joe. I had known that he opposed siding with the Allies against Nazi Germany. I hadn't realized just how much, and to what extent he battled with Roosevelt. It led to Roosevelt firing him as ambassador to England. I also hadn't realized just how much he dominated sons, all the way into Jack's presidency.
With regard to Jack, I knew that he was a womanizer, but I hadn't realized just to what an extent. Jackie stuck with him through a lot. The show also showed how his inexperience cost us with regard to the Bay of Pigs, and how that empowered Kruschef(sp).
The show also showed how quickly he learned, and how much of a team that he and Bobbie were. From the racial integration of the U of Mississippi, to the Cuban missile crisis, the Berlin wall. They haven't gotten as far as the space program or Viet Nam yet.
Probably the biggest issue was a reminder of just how much was going on in the world, and in the country in those days. Jack faced some huge challenges.

I'd say the outcome of the Cuban Missile Crisis says Khrushchev was not empowered by the Bay of Pigs fiasco.
The one thing I wish we could know had Jack lived: He'd already started to question the wisdom of our involvement in Vietnam, I wonder if that debacle would've ended many years earlier had he still been in the White House?
Sorry, but the Kennedy's were hacks. Only someone who just got
a TV for the first time would believe anything he said.
If he had not been shot, he might have gone down as the worst
president - He continued Vietnam and played it.

Wrong! Eisenhower had already sent military advisors to Vietnam.

Had Kennedy handled the BOP differently (either not sending people in there in the first place, or supporting them once they were committed) Khrushchev might have seen Kennedy and the US as a stronger opponent and might not have tried putting missles with nuclear warheads in Cuba in the first place. Hard to say, people have been debating this for decades, and will continue to do so.
I agree with you on VN. By all accounts LBJ was in way over his head, Kennedy was a much better president. And as one who had served in the military, he probably would be more resistant to increased military involvement there.
He was empowered by the Bay of Pigs. Kennedy wrote a letter to Khrushchev demanding the removal of the "missiles and bombers" but the thing that is forgotten in that letter is Kennedy's request for the SU to stop using Cuba in its sphere of influence. Well, of course Kennedy gave in on that demand as long as the bombs and missiles were removed which later left 30,000 Soviet "technicians" which would eventually be dispatched to Africa, Central America and Grenada.

Good point, I hadn't considered just how untried he would've been considered at that time. I do think Kennedy played the missile crisis brilliantly

One thing I've never read anything detrimental about was his military record, no matter how flawed the man was it doesn't seem he lacked courage.
