Real leadership? What happened to the 100 billion in spending cuts that Boehner promised?

New House budget legislation drafted by Republicans adds $450 million for a particular bit of defense spending that the Department of Defense did not ask for and does not want: a new Joint Strike Fighter aircraft engine project in House Speaker John Boehner's (R) hometown of Cincinnati and Dayton, the largest city in his congressional district. The Center for American Progress calls it "money that looks, feels, and smells very much like an earmark."

Wondering how this will go over? Everyone wants the government to fix our deficit but noone wants to raise taxes, it will be interesting to see what Congress as a whole as to say about this. I cannot understand how ANYONE can scream for fiscal responsiblity but yet are unwilling to raise taxes.
Allow me to explain it to you. Money that goes to the government is money that is taken out of the economy. Raising taxes slows economic growth. Hope this helps.

I bet we could LOWER tax rates if we would close loopholes.

And please, don't repeat the meme about "regulations and taxes," as if they're just SO burdensome that they CAN'T be overcome. Regulations and tax rates for the rich and corporate have been DISAPPEARING for the last few decades and the less we have the MORE corporations cry about it. Corporations will cry out in pain as they strike you in the face.

I'm not really afraid of what would happen if we did raise taxes and simplified our regulatory and tax codes so they no longer ABSOLUTELY favor the huge corporations. If some of the leech corporations and corporate welfare mamas want to leave American shores, good, I hope they enjoy the third world. We're a huge country and currently the government and big business comes together to keep small business and entrepreneurs down. If we fix the system and those at the top want to throw a hissy fit and runaway fine. I hope the door hits their asses on the way out.

Corporations have one responsibility, to their shareholders. They are not charged with "overcoming" taxes and regulations, but to avoid them to provide the most profit for their shareholders, which are most taxpayers who have 401K's and alike and seniors and their pensions. If you're "fine" with them running away, then quit complaining.

Woah, that's rich, and also bull****. If you want to live in an civilized society taxes are the price you pay.

I'm fine with the current collection of tax dodgers, tax cheats, frauds, leeches, and bums who currently sit atop the United Corporate Government of America running away. They can take the Wall St banksters with them.

Corporations and people willing to comply by the tax code, keep jobs in America, and not enrich themselves at the expense of the country and their workers by paying off Uncle Sam to load the dice in their favor are more than welcome to stay here in America. They are part of the solution. The lot of swindlers I'm talking about are big part of the problem.

You paint such a quaint picture of corporate America, where everyone plays by the rules and those at top give a **** about "seniors and their pensions." I mean they're just conveniently avoiding those pesky socialist regulations and taxes. They're just good ol' fashioned Captains of Industry crusading for America!

Yeah right, tell that to Enron, Worldcom, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Bernie Madoff, etc.

You mean America's wars authorized and funded by legislation and votes in Congress. Bush never spent one penny not passed in a Congressional budget.

Of course there are corporate cheats, as there are individual cheats in the middle and lower classes. But, you are painting them with a huge brush, willing to punish them all for the bad done by a few. Support the Fair Tax and get rid of corporate loopholes.

He just lost my vote. Raising taxes helps no one but the government. It helps the government continue to gorge and expand further. As if its not already bursting at the seams.

Everyone crying about the ending of the Bush tax cuts need to remember that the cuts were for everyone including the rich, not ONLY for the rich.

If what you say is true, then the reverse would also be true, massive spending increases would equate to a better economy.. Since the spending has doubled over the last 10 years, are we better off now than we were then? I dont think so, and considering 10 years ago we were suffering a 9/11 recession, thats rather sad...

I do not believe that the government should be entitled to ANY more of our money. If they can't work with what we already give them well too bad, they need to tighten their belts. They obviously do not know how to keep within a budget. I think everyone running the government should have their pay cut and learn how to fly economy.
