Again..if the town took care of their money problems an EMF would not be in charge and their assets wouldn't be on the selling block.
They won't answer that, but you might get a PM with a personal attack inside, like I did. Wouldn't respond to my post, but instead attacked me through a PM.

The north end of the beach has been overgrown and completely ignored for many decades. It wasn't natural, it was gone to the weeds and whatever else, plus parts were swampy and unusable. The city of BH had let it rot.
Today, the south end has been rejuvenated, and it looks far better than it has in decades. It's nice and easy access, parking, facilities, and the beach looks great. It's now a gem, where before it was a mess. It matches the beautiful facilities found in St Joe's Silver Beach...which is one of the best beaches in the country, probably the best lake beach anywhere. If you travel this way, head to the north side of the river and see it for yourself...Klock Park is bigger and much less crowded, so far.
The north end of Jean Klock Park, the part unused and wild for many more decades, was converted to three holes on the golf course. It's now being used, and will draw tons of money to the area.
Benton Harbor is a huge drain on this area. That little city is like a giant and ugly wart on your nose. If the EFM fixes the city government, then the city can at least begin the process of financial and maybe social recovery. Without the EFM, this wart drags down the entire region, and the BH citizens will remain stuck in their current situation with no hope. That's not fair to them, they deserve better. They deserve a city council that works, and they deserve opportunities. Without the EFM, none of that happens.
they just wont admit, this golf course might be the best thing for a decaying town

defunk the city, have it be annexed to ST. Joes...problem solved
How are any union driven attempts to circumvent elections through thuggery any different than an EFM coming in and doing the work a city government is unwilling to do? Elections have consequences and one if them is the unions are finally being exposed for what they are, getting the comeuppance that is long overdue from an exasperated public that has already taken it on the chin, rightfully indignant of union members who not only *not* suffer but hide behind their incompetence using the 'voice of the people' as if it's their right.
The do-nothing bureaucrats will finally have to pay in for their own health and retirement benefits. The state will emerge from being anti-business and thrive as a result. Accountability for all the citizens of the state will be restored. And it will all happen despite the best attempts of the unions and leftists and malcontents to destroy the state just because they don't like the political party affiliation of a Governor willing to lead instead of blaming the criminal who was his predecessor.

You are right. It will bring in revenue, raise property values and provide many jobs.
Golf courses haven't been a good public investment for the last several years, at least here. Several jurisdictions got into the golf course business over the last 15 or so years and everyone of them are still being subsidized. This was done at the urging of the state's Department of Economic and Community Development in partnership with a quasi-public state corporation.
Back to Benton Harbor's takeover. MD also has the ability to takeover any local or appointed governmental body (town council, County Commisioners, Planning and zoning, Board of appeals, etc.) to reorganize it. It was most recently done a few years ago when the State Legislature abolished an elected school board
Are you aware of the this rethuglican governor in office just over 100 days is taking assets from the residents. What resident in BH do you think will pay 5000 to hit a white ball on the greens? No they want the land! If the beach was not there, neither would the rich thieves.
You got that right. And there's another town along Lake Michigan that is poised for the same kind of take over where a big developer have kept the town embroiled in lawsuits they can't afford and when the town start running in the redbecauseof the lawsuits, our new governor helps the take-over with his new law. Saugatuck voted on a special tax just to help pay for their lawsuits but they are worried about Synder's dirty little land grabbers coming their next. This town is far from "run down" and "worthless" like many people in this thread are claiming is true of Benton Harbor.
