They were never meant to create jobs.
They were put in place to put more money in people's pockets to encourage spending.

It was the Obama stimulus that was supposed to create jobs.

Another shovel ready opinion piece.

Government doesn't create jobs (except for it's own growth),but it can sure impede or squash them.

Job creation? - NYTimes.com

Tax cuts don't create jobs. If they did then the Bush curve would have been much higher.

Yes...

There is bonus depreciation in there that encourages the purchase of major equipment.

There are other things too.

You're right, government doesn't create that many jobs. There are a few examples such as airlines, military spending, and NASA, but for the most part they don't create jobs.

However, offering incentives to corporations and private millionaires who aren't creating more jobs with their decreasing tax rate doesn't create the incentive to make more money.

I was fine with the tax cuts under Clinton, for everyone. Go back to that rate, then cut to meet a balanced budget. Raise retirement age to 70 years old for anyone under 40, and create a national healthcare system for immediate and life threatening needs.

Its kind of like the interstates. Sure, someone might have built them sooner or later without government money. But we wouldn't have had them when we did have them without government money.

Government spending money on things isn't always a bad thing. That doesn't mean its always right either.
