with the merger of T-Mobile and AT&T wont they have somewhat of a monopoly anyway? so whats the point?
Business as usual until the DOJ and FCC decide the deal can go through.
Most of this years budget was approved at the beginning of Q1, so all of the new construction, commercials, and other business goings on have to continue.
It'll be the end of this year, to the end of Q1 2012 before the deal is finalized.
The wireless industry has been operating with two main companies for the last 5 years anyway. Sprint and T-Mobile were never real contenders or real options. Verizon and AT&T have to much money and to many customers for a viable third party cellular company.
Sprints days are numbered. It costs to much money to run these networks with the constant upgrades that are being required for faster and faster data speeds.
The current Presidential administration wants to extend broadband service to 97% of Americans, and the only real way to do that is with wireless.
Memphis is right, until the deal is sealed they are still considering each other competitors. In fact, if it doesn't go through, I believe AT&T is supposed to give T-Mo a chunk of its spectrum (or something like that).
I hope Sprint stays around. They're my carrier and I absolutely love them. They're cheaper than VZW or AT&T, have just as good service and have some excellent phones. One less competitor would be an awful thing.

It really depends on where you go with sprint.
They don't have good rural service, and there are large parts of the country where they don't have coverage. They can show their coverage map all they want, all wireless carriers lie about their coverage.
Yes, if the deal doesn't go through AT&T has to give up spectrum and about 30 billion dollars to Deutsch Telecom.
T-Mobile USA is done one way or the other, even if the .0001% chance came true and the deal didn't go through, it would be chopped up into little bits, and AT&T would just buy the parts they want.
Oh ok, thanks for the explanation. Well at least the commercials are not annoying. I do appreciate the T-Mobile girl, she looks like Don Draper's fiance.
