CAIRO (AP) — Protesters led by hardline Islamists in southern Egypt held their ground Monday, saying they won’t end their campaign of civil disobedience until the government removes a newly appointed Coptic Christian governor.
The protesters, many from the ultraconservative Salafi trend of Islam, have been sitting on train tracks, taken over government buildings and blocked main roads in the southern city of Qena, insisting the new governor won’t properly implement Islamic law.
Just like the situation in Egypt is very similar to 1979 Iran? Like that kind of similar?
Quite possibly, after all we force fed puppet dictators in Iran and in Egypt for at least 25 years. But that makes for a different topic. Here, you're complaining about right wing fundamentalists whining and complaining about non-conformity to their belief system. That happens to be true virtually everywhere in the world.
I hope all those people here on CD who said radicals wouldn't take over in Egypt are enjoying their crow...
THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE!!!!! LMAO!
It is what democracy looks like. What's so funny about it? Democracy reflects the values and culture of the people who form that democracy. This article does not suggest that radicals have take over Egypt, but instead that very conservative religious groups have a presence in Egypt and are voicing their viewpoint. As they should be permitted to do in a democracy. As such groups do in the United States.

What belief system? I thought this was Democracy? Democracy doesn't run under any religious belief system, that is what is called a theocracy. So are you now admitting that Egypt is destined for a theocracy?

AFAIK, we don't have theocracy here in America and yet such right wing fundamentalists protests against "advancement" of other (minority) religions. How is this any different?
